apparently according to the ship date the pack had been there for awhile. i was shitty at the neighbors for not just walking to my house and giving me the damn thing. they see me leave everyday to lift in a tank top and they can tell i'm a bigger guy and they drink and smoke weed so you'd think they would just bring me the shit. basically they were doing some remodeling and they were taking shit out under the back porch and found this pack. dude freaked cuz he didn't know what it was and he has kids and priors so he didn't even want his fingerprints on it. i'm going to admit that i'm a little computer illeterate. i do not wish to go out and buy a 300 dollar tower if all i have to do is put in an 80 dollar hard drive, yet don't know how to access it, take it out, put new one in, etc. can't best buy do that kind of shit? and besides, can't they still track my old emails and internet activities through my isp? or trace shit to my ip address? i dont' get home from work until after mail arrives so someone could easily have gone on my porch and grabbed it. not being racist here at all but a bunch of younger blacks have moved into this neighborhood and are always riding their bikes on the sidewalk in front of my house. maybe they thought it was something of value and grabbed it, but i figured once they saw what it was they would take it and try and sell it, or it could have been some dipshit kids that didn't know what it was and just stashed it to fuck with it later. who knows? all i know is that this blows and i need to feel safe again. got too much in my life to go down for this.

p.s. no, not the same girl that cheated on me. i guess change the word girlfriend to friends with benefits. one of those types, but she's very cool and trustworthy, known her for years. she even did my lat shot for me yesterday cuz i couldn't reach.

If you keep gear out of your home, delete any incriminating emails, and defragment your hard drive (this will help to overwrite the deleted file data), then you are probably fine. I mean, for the police to both with the whole forensics thing if can't even find gear in your house....it just isn't going to happen. I could be wrong. Do you have a restore CD that came with your computer or something?

You've done the right things so far. If you had gear in your home during a search then you would have been fucked.

isn't the hard drive the computer itself? i mean fuck, i've got so much going on in my life now as it is, found out the love of my life has been cheating, been real down, and now this shit. the story with the neibors is legit. i know the neighbors and i saw the cop outside in their yard with a flashlight looking around. after he left i went and talked to the neigbors and they told me what happened. that was the truth, and it was from a domestic source. i can get a new computer, only 200 for a new tower, not to big of a deal, but it sucks i can't come on the boards anymore. the last thing i want to do is sit here and be paranoid for the next year. wtf is up with life sometimes, so beuatiful yet so painful. fuck.

There's little chance they can trace a message board ID to you.

You don't have to replace your tower just to replace the hard drive. Depending on the size, a replacement hard drive is probably in the $79.95 range. You can even slave the old drive off the new one just long enough to copy any data you can't easily replace, before destroying it.

dude I would just relax...what do you use for your email ? Outlook Express ? Hotmail ? Can you read them offline or online only ?

Basicly I would just delete any incriminating info on your PC, then defrag it...once defragged fill up the drive to max with lots of large files, such as movies..make sure the drive gets 99% full....delete the data and do it again up to 10 times.

I work with file recovery software all the time and this is just as good as wiping the mofo.

I'd also change ur ID on any forums and start with nice fresh ones that don't point to any forums where you are asking for info on how to get rid of all the evidence

Next move to the UK where steroids are legal and you can shoot up infront of a copper

No, that isn't true. PC-DOS and MS-DOS had fdisk for disk partitioning and a command called, 'format' to format the disk. I'm 100% sure.

AHHH Man let me clear this up for you really quick. Heres a quick run through. F-Disk eg. "fdisk" is included on most boot disks and OEM Products which allows you to ....
1. Format your drive.
2. Partition your drive
3. Set the boot drive where the OS will reside.
4. Add/Delete partitions.

The command Format such as "format c:" will erase the drive which will allow you to recover disk space for multiple purposes (OS rebuild) (virus) etc.

If you wish to do the best job possible you will need to aquire a wipe program such as "Drive Washer" or "Disk Wipe" also a program such as Symantec Ghost comes with a utility called 'qwipe" you wil have to use this program to wipe your disk to atleast the DOD (Department of Defense) standard which will make approx. 8 wipes of the disk taking about 30-45 min depending on disk size.

True it is not a format utility, but when a partition is deleted through f-disk it is not recoverable by just recreating the partition. That is why it prompts you if you are sure before deleting a partition.

Find out what harddrive you have, and go to their website and download their utility, or any harddrive utilitiy for that matter and use something called "zero fill".. this completley fills the hard drive w/ 0s..

If you didn't know data is stored as 0s and 1s.. if it is completley formatted, and then completley filled w/ 0s and then completely formatted again.. if they try to reconstruct it, all they're gonna find is a bunch of 0s.. NOT HARD!

When a drive is simply formatted it is not comletely erased but the FAT (File allocation Table) is erased and copied over making the space useable again a FAT is in a way a table of contents telling the drive where each bit of data resides on the HDD. Its like tearing out the Table of Contents out of a book the pages with the writing are still there but just cant be found through simple means. By completely writing 0's and 1's to the disk the data is completely overwritten though several passes will need to be done.

A little extra info for you to know when formatting a disk......

If you do not specify the /u switch or a switch that reformats the disk to a different size, format performs a "safe" format. It clears the file allocation table and root directory of the disk but does not delete any data. You can then use the unformat command to recover the disk if you did not intend to format the disk.
If you specify the /u switch or any switch that changes the size of the disk, format performs an unconditional format by deleting all data on the disk.

Here are your outs
1) Pack was opened and left under neighbors porch (it is illegal to open mail that is not addressed to you) The fact that the pack was open when your neighbor found it, will be more than obvious that the pack was tampered with and the evidence will easily be thrown out of court.
2) Pack was found not in your residence, your personal posssesion, or vehicle.
3) Person could have opened your pack took out the "DVDs" you ordered and for some reason replaced them with illegal steroids.

There are too many outs for them to proceed with this case, so dont worry on that end. The cop was going fishing and seeing if you would be dumb enough to confess. Although it wouldnt take but a good lawyer to do this, it doesnt mean that you wont be under a microscope for a while, so keep that in mind.

PS, not sure if you let the cop in or not when he came over, but in the majority of states LE are allowed to do a weapons search for their and your safety. and anything found can be used against you. The catch is that a weapon must be in plain sight, or with reach from you, but of course many cops will push the limits, search inside drawers, etc... and people not knowing any better confess, or get busted.

It is always best to do your talking on the front step no matter how cold, or late it is. You can also refuse to answer any questions and very politley ask them to leave if you feel they are getting too pushy.
