Squat Help

Strong as Lead
I switched up the form on my Squats... moved my hands in on the bar and am concentrating on keeping my elbows forward. This took a bunch the strain off of my lower back and impoved my lifts, problem is I'm not feeling it quite as much in my hamstrings as I used too, seems to have shifted to my quads. Any pointers? I'm a short dude 5'5", 145 lbs. (thats heavy for me by the way as when I started lifting I was 115 lbs).

you gonna have elb ow probs if you keep squating like that.

what driving the elbows forward does is keep you more upright on your squats. this can be accomplished without moving your hands in.

BTW nice weight gain bro. you added more than 25% of your original weight, very nice.

Thanks pullinbig, it took a lot of proper diet to get me to where I am... I was using the new technique to straighten myself up... what do you suggest for gettin this result without moving the hands in?

theres a few things to try . after reading your post im guessing you have the bar really high on the back by moveing the bar down the back some and arching the back you can decrease the leverage the weight has on your lower back you dont have to make a big jump all at once do a lot of lower weights and experiment so that you can adjust to haveing the bar down lower . move the hands back out , eventually your elbows and shoulders will suffer if you dont .
i second pbs congrats you have made some good progress and i also like the fact that you have allready found your way under the bar on squat day . for adding mass squats , deads ,bench are the core of a good workout .

oh yeah the reason you feeling it more in the quads is because you more upright. you prolly doing a partial good morning before. thats why the hammies took a beating.

if you can email me a clip of you squatting and ill be glad to take a lok at it for ya. may be a very simple fix. or if you can host it post it her for all to see. =0)

Thanks for the advice guys... no camera right now, but its on the christmas list. As soon as I get one I'll be posting my lifts for critique. OK so I won't worry about hitting the quads more, I'll just work my hammies with deads, and I'll move my arms back out.

yea let your arms rest on the bar. do not push up with your arms when squatting. stretch um out sa far as yoyu can.

how wide are your feet when squatting? if you squatting narrow stance moving the feet out will help to take some strain off the lower back.

Feet are shoulder width, not much more... I have a bad pronation problem so my feet are typically straight ahead or just slightly out, I'm working on that but the strain on my groin is killer so I'm taking it slow.
