Suggestions for routine needed

I am 5'7" And weigh 175 pounds and am 37. I used to work out like a champ in high school but have been sedimentary for years. I need a basic program that will he'll me get definition and cut down on my rounding belly. I don't know if I should be concentrating on free weights or machines at first to build up my strength. I am looking for frequency of mud le groups... whether to stick with pushes on one day and pulls on the next while doing abs everyday? Any suggestions would be great.
 
work in bodyweight exercises too, just the basics pushups, pullups , squat thrusts. It will help you ease back into it. I did P90x with my wife to help us get started back into it, 2 years later we are both still busting our asses. Diet is the key, just ask 3J.
 
For a beginner you just cant beat the basic compound lifts and set rep 10 x 3.
Squat
Deadlift
Bench
Dips
Bbl bentover row
Pull up/Chin up
Overhead press
And there you go.
