Thyroid labs getting worse on TRT

So i started TRT 4 months ago, with my TSH being between 2.5-4 on repeat blood tests however on my latest checkup its rose to 5.5.

I dont feel any exegerated side effects from it, slightly tired but that could be lifestyle?

I have also been cutting some bf, to around 10%, could this be the cause of it getting worse?

thanks

Caloric deficits can do this. Maybe you need a two-week break from your diet to "reset" your metabolism.

Agreed. Make it a high carb two weeks, either at maintenance or 20% above.

Thanks for the replies, I'm actually in my last week of cutting so will be increasing the calories slowly anyway.

Secondly my carbs havnt dropped below 180g and iv been having a weekly high carb refeed

Currently sitting at <10%

Strangely enough fat loss hasn't seemed to have stalled?

Yeah sometimes you diet for so long, and strictly that your body needs a kick start. Lately I've been just feeling my body out. I'll have my post workout meal, and if I just feel like I need more carbs I'll just pile some more on. Could be "good" carbs, or sometimes "not as good" carbs as people would typically view them. Like last night I finished my Egg whites/with lean ground beef and oatmeal. Felt like I just need to carb up some. I had like 5 slices of Potato Bread with natural grape jelly spread on each one. It sounded good. This morning I was almost a pound lighter than yesterday.

Refeeds certainly help, but you'll never stop thyroid downregulation. At sub 10% your leptin levels are basically zero as well - that plays a big role. I imagine if you've dieted down to 10% or under (meaning your not naturally that lean) you won't be able to improve thyroid MUCH more. Certainly it will improve moving to maintenance/bulk calories, but as long as you stay that lean it will probably always be sluggish.

Excellent that fat loss hasn't stalled though - you must have some great genetics (or drugs, or both lol.) IMO thyroid isn't a huge deal anyhow... I've been easily able to out eat 100mcg T3 daily lol.. it makes a difference but it's only a budge in either direction. Nothing setting calories can't beat.

Yeh my thyroid was sluggish when i was bulking around 15% body fat anyhow and ranged between 3.5-4.5 TSH.
Doc was hesitant to put me on more meds but said he would monitor to see how it goes, i do put on weight very easily when i upp my calories and continually have to monitor what i eat which is annoying...

Whats your guys opinion on TRT meds? I assume he may suggest it on my checkup tuesday but not sure if i should be keen to or try and put him off...

thanks

Aren't you already on TRT? Or do you mean thyroid meds?

My thoughts on it are the same as TRT - if you need them, they're great & you should be on them. But you should also investigate what causes and consider solutions that there may be without going on a lifetime commitment of treatment if you can.

Do you get any symptoms associated with your thyroid?? If not, why even bother treating? If your easily able to diet down to sub 10% and you have no other symptoms (lethargy etc.) then who cares? It's just a number.

And as we mentioned earlier, your bodyfat % is so low that I would expect it to be sluggish. This is relatively normal.

Thanks again for the reply, the only noted effects i have are slow metabolism. When eating slightly over maintenece i can put on fat very easy, I dont struggle to lose fat but i have to be super strict and anal over my diet/cardio so I would say its having some effect there.
I do suffer more from tiredness than peers of my age, which improved slightly when on TRT but i noticed welbeing effects more on TRT than aiding tiredness itself so i guess it could be having an effect.

So really, it could be having some effect yes but not major enough to be a definite cause...

I did not know this about being at so low a body fat percentage. Learned something today - no longer just a wasted day. :)
