Timing . . .

Who is Mike Jones?

Lifts haven't been moving quite as much as I was hoping and was wondering:

When did use a belt for deads and squats? Did you reach a certain weight where it would help?

Using wood blocks for bench? What is that helping with and why would you incorporate it?

:help:

Just thinking . . . .

Last 2 times I tried using a belt for deads, it didn't help me at all amazingly. There are folks who dead and squat in the 500s for reps who dont, so its really up to you.

Board presses on the bench are for training that range of motion, i.e. triceps lockout strength and so on. This is for shirted benchers.

Good to know mate. Thxs

I was wondering if belts will help deads and squats but as you pointed out there are guys who don't so I'll press on.

I wasn't aware board presses where for shirted only, also good to know. Thxs

heres my take on weather or not you should add gear, belts, wraps etc..

adding those things will give you a one time increase once you learn how to use them properly..whatever increase you get doesnt matter..lets say you get 30 lbs added to your squat or dead from using the belt..thats great NOW what are you going to do to get another 30lbs..

some people believe a belt is a crutch i think its total bullshit..i use a belt for every set of squats i do over 225..i also use briefs every week to squat in..yet whatever increase ive gotten from using this sort of equiment ive still been able to add pundages to my lifts..why because i have gotten stronger regardless of what im wearing..

go ahead and use a belt but figure out why right now your lifts have stalled..is diet/training/rest etc

ive always felt that a belt just gives one a false sense of security. very rarely do i use a belt.

Point well taken . . .

I guess I had the false sense that if I added the xtra 30 lbs that the weight would continue but everthing has to come to an end I suppose . . .

belts protect you , period. thats what they for. i wear one once i get heavy. same with knee wraps. no shame in wearing gear if you have a need.

Do you wait for the injury to occur or if you haven't had one yet don;t start with a belt?

I use a belt all the time. I've fucked up my back before and it still hurts to this day, even though its a crack in my vertabrae that prob wont get fixed. No reason to chance gettin hurt on a lift so I wear one IMO.
