Tom Platz - man of squat

that makes me want to give up squating all together. I think I have a good leg workout and then see this. damn!

there are several folks squattin 500+ for a set of 20, without a squat suit. still impressive though but not uncommon. the biggest trick to hittin 20+ reps is not getting sick during the set. what impresses me the most about this clip is it looks as though he has a groin injury. that makes squatting difficult. the current world record squat, done under strict judging, is 1141. dead lift is 932.5 and bench is 925.

not taking anything away from platz as i have always been a fan of his. one strong BBer.

now kaz on the other hand is a monster. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Johnny Perry's funeral. the funeral was not a pleasure but meeting kaz was. I just wish it had been under better circumstances. Johnny was one of the few guys who made kaz look small. I'm 6' 300lbs and he dwarfed me. i felt like a little kid standing beside him in the gym. he is greatly missed.

he looks really young.. how old was he when he passed??
and how did he die.. if you dont mind me asking.:(

just turned thirty and passed of a cocaine overdose. we had just talked at the gym the week before it happened and he said he was gonna get serious after finishing fourth at the 02 WSM. a week later his dad found him dead when he went to wake him up to catch a plane to finland to do a strongman. he died in his sleep. he had injested oxycotin to help him sleep after the all day and night binge. what a waste. johnny would go to PLing meets just to load plates and spot. he did it out of his own pocket and never looked any reconnigition for it. he loved to train and be around others who loved the iron. the funeral was packed. people from all over the world. we are country people around here so we were over whelmed at the turn out.

here is how i rember him all 6' 6'' and 400lbs.

Fuck, Tom Platz is the man.

Ever since I read Arnold's Encycolopedia to Modern Bodybuilding, and I saw those quads -- he's been my idol. I'm going to have some bigass quads like that, one of these days =)
