Tracking Number Question

Sorry if this in the wrong section wasn't sure where to put it. Anyway I was wondering how long after you ship something it takes to get a tracking number through usps. I thought you got it when you sent the package. The reason i'm asking is because I recently place a order for some gear and the guy told me the package had been sent but he was waiting on the tracking number from the mail. He said I would probably get the package before he gets the tracking number. Does this sound normal to you all or is something fishy?

Yes..it's normal under most circumstances.... You have the lady scan the pack or envelope in sometimes and still it takes a while before it enters the system ...plus it all depends how the person sent it....it he just dropped it off and did not have it scanned in...the odds are that it probably wont be scanned in till it reaches you that day.

Weird, hahah, everytime that i go to the post office they say we dont have tracking numbers, but we have delivery comfirmation, maybe im just stupid and they tell me that becasue they know ill pay the .59 cents or whatever haha...

I stand corrected... My bad

no worries bro

It was only recently brought to my attention they had tracking. Maybe it's new or maybe it's the post office's best kept secret.

Everytime I get a tracking number from the usps I don't even look at it anymore. Ill get the package before its even updated to shipped. Its real slow

There are different factors that determine how well a tracking number will help you with the USPS.

This most likely isn't the case here - but if a sender sends out multiple items that all look similar - the post office will sometimes only scan one item - you could have ten packages and only one will have updated tracking data.

It all depends on the service selected.

In short - you can check the tracking but I wouldn't depend on it :)

I had the same issue recently. I kept putting in my tracking number and it kept saying "this piece of mail is preparing delivery from origin post".

So I called and they said since it was "registered mail" it could not be tracked til it reached it's final office for delivery.
