just fyi for guys who think they can do both hardcore.....you have to either lessen your training in mma or weights to do good with the other.
also, i think brazilian jiu-jitsu is one of the best martial arts to know when confronted in a street fight(as well as kickboxing-muay thai).
anybody disagrees?
does anyone think that KARATE or TAE KWON DO is effective in the streets? hahahahahaha.

When you can drop someone with a right cross on the chin, before they can even start talking shit....That's effective. See even if they know some shit like karate and all that garbage, all it takes is one shot in the right place.
joltan said:I agree with you except, you need to know more than just the basic single and double leg takedown. Those you need, but what are you going to do from the clinch? especially if someone is overpowering you. Just to name a couple, head and arm, underhook takedowns, suflex, and ankle pics. I've seen all of these utilized in mma fights beautifully. You also need to know how to pummel to get arm control. Very, very, very important. YOu will need that for knees and elbows to the face , stopping clinch takedowns, and to keep safe in your guard. And most importantly is your defense, you need to be able to stuff and counter all takedowns that could be used or your fucked, and going to end up mounted or in your guard wishing you knew how to stop a takedown. I dont know much about jiu jitsu as far as grappling goes, but i would assume they teach you how to pummel and get arm control atleast.
