type of grip when doing deadlifts

GET BIG
for some reason when i learned how to do deadlifts, i was more comfortable with an overhand grip. ive tried the over/under thing like most people do but i just cant seem to get the hang of it. any thoughts on this?

I'm the same way. I can only do an overhand grip. I tired one over one under and it just felt really weird.

Over one and under one is how I do it. I feel as if I get more grip by doing it and the bar doesn't slip out of my hands.

Whatever works for you - stay with it.

over under allows you to use the most weight, but make sure you keep your "under" arm straight to avoid tearing a bicep.

i agree that allows you to do more weight but wouldnt it hit less of the primary muscles with different grips? also, wouldnt it work different secondary muscles since one hand is pronated and the other supinated? either way i feel un-balanced when i do over/under grip.

also, whats the general consensus on wraps. i like them bc i can go heavier and i end up feeling it more in my back. . . others argue that its cheating

You ever try doing dead lifts with a 55lb trap bar? Those handles are so thick I have no choice but to use straps I can barly hold 415lbs for 1 rep

yeah thats always an option. i've never done them before...they hit the back as hard as regular ones?

The first time I tried deadlifts I did them with the alternate grip; it felt weird at first like unbalanced but it feels natural after a few times when you get used to it.
I always use that grip.

yeah it is. i was doing some deads today for the first time in about 6 months at the very least. it was part of my 5x5. i hit 225 for 5 with a double overhand grip then just for the hell of it tried 315 with the over/under and hit it for 5. im going to start using that grip, hopfully ill get fully used to it. And hopfully my deads will go back up to the 400's where they once were lol.

i used over/under for years. changing over to hook grip now.

for you guys pulling dbl overhand you aint moving much weight (yet) :D

I started at over/underhand so am more used to that but have done alot of double overhand since then, just use straps when doing so cuz i can't hold onto as much weight when doing so. W/e u're used to.
