Well this sucks (lab results)

I had a cold last week and went to the clinic to get a cortisone shot and some antibiotics. Since I have been getting interested (obsessed) with this stuff recently I decided to get my testosterone levels checked while I was there. I was expecting to be in the normal-high range but this is what came back:

Testosterone, serum
243 ng/dl reference interval 347-1197

free testosterone (direct) 8.9 pg/ml reference interval 9.3-26.5

I know there are other tests I need to get run (fsh. lh, ect) but still, what the hell?!!!
I am only 22 and am healthy and have never used steroids. I have had some symptoms of low test before I guess but I never really thought that could be the cause and just assumed dragging myself around against my will and being tired a lot of the time was part of life. what should I do? I'm going to make an appointment with my primary care Dr. and get the labs re run in a couple weeks just to be sure..

Looks like your diet is slack by your avatar.

Diet plays a factor

I agree, you're pretty young. how clean do you eat? I've been eating really clean for over 6 years now...even cleaner now that i've been a client of 3j's and I feel better then i did when i was your age.

get your diet checked out for free in the diet forum..if your serious, check him out. he knows what he's doin.

Diet will not put you where you want to be. Theres members on here who started testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at around your age

Those are very low numbers man. I would get estro, lh, fsh checked but if you have never cycled you may be a candadit for TRT.

You taking any medications?? And opiates?

Good luck but I certainly wouldn't walk around with those numbers.

My diet is 3j approved.. Some of you guys think diet is a panacea for everything.. Doesnt really make sense.. This might explain why no matter how much I eat I have trouble bulking and even more difficulty keeping mass on.. Seems like 2 days off a bulking diet can undo 2 weeks of massive eating. Used to play around with a lot of rec drugs, lived in amsterdam and smoked pot daily, but I got arrested about a year ago and have been clean since besides drinking occasionally on weekends which I don't even do much anymore since I moved out of the frat house. Fuck

Ok buddy....at 22 years old u know everything. Judging by your avatar....ur diet is not approved by anyone. Good luck.

Well he aint fat!! Just lacking mass on the body and shoulders really, which usually comes in with more age/training experience.. Arms are decent and core looks lean, like suckin in the gut a bit but the belly button don't lie, I don't see where a lot of fat could be hiding, diet must be some what in place with T numbers like that! I tested 650ng/dl last time and I can't get my fat ass that lean on a rabbit diet lol

Eggs
tuna

cottage cheese
walnuts
chicken
sardines
broccoli
oats
bananas
mangos
apples

^^^^^^^if your not eating at least 2 of these every meal, your not eating right. Trust me, i bang the nutritionist at my gym.

so a very low natty test level like the one the OP has does make it more difficult for him to put on mass vs. normal levels... how much more is hard to say...

that being said, i wouldn't put your diet in the shadows so damn quickly....

women who have nothing close to your test levels can bulk and put on mass...

BUT... i agree that you should consider looking into HRT.. it will improve your overall well being if your test levels are naturally that low..

if you are interested in getting your diet checked check out my free diet advice thread.. or if you wanna get deeper into it and be under my supervision your more then welcome to become a client...

either way it sucks that your test levels are that low..

good luck to you! enjoy ology

I found out that my natty test levels were sub-300, with a bottomed out LH and FSH, at age 20.

-no cycling experience
-bad relationship with food for ~4 months (<20g of fat a day, <2000 calories a day, maintenance was probably closer to 2800, fantasizing about food and having hunger pangs 24/7)
-obese as a child

On life's now and it's never been better. (BB takes a backseat to quality of life once you get testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) sorted out).

That being said, before you get on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), you need to talk to your doc and see if you can get a referral to an endocrinologist, or at the very least, a urologist.

Research symptoms and treatments on your own. Understand that most of what you read on the boards and internet articles will be slanted heavily in favor of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), while your doc(s) will be staunchly opposed to anything but an insufficient dose of Androgel, or a heinously infrequent injection of Cyp.

Go to your doctor and try to find the root cause of the issue. Get retests done in the AM, and perhaps an MRI of the pituitary gland if that may be the cause. If you're luck you may be able to find a doc that knows about restart protocols (hCG monotherapy or clomid restarts).

It could be that the gear u are taking is not real?

I am pretty sure he said he has never taken A.S. ...

But yeah if you are in your twenties and never been on A.S. then those test lvls at a glance are low. If you ever took opiats for a lengthy time then that could be the cause of the low T.

TRT/HRT or whatever the fuck, remember one simple principle.. Doctors SELL drugs. All they're out to do is push pills or liquids to make money for pharmaceutical companies who PAY THEM! They're taught to treat symptoms in a temporary manner, not heal and fix the problem long term. If they knew how to heal these problems they still wouldn't because that's not how they and Pharma companies get rich as fuck like they are. I'm more likely to find a street hustler who cares more about his clients well being than a Medical Doctor..

IMO, Most endogenous imbalances can be manipulated and improved better with diet and exercise tweaks rather than pumping in exogenous hormones which shut you down worse leading to twice weekly injections for the rest of your life, or as long as you can afford it.

excellent post

Bro, I'm not saying docs won't SAVE your life when surgical or certain medical intervention is necessary, rather just that keeping people coming back time and time again because they aren't properly healing IS their intended purpose.

There's so many ways people can be cured if there wasn't such a pharmaceutical monopoly

what does a shutdown pit gland mean in a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) situation? using to much testosterone in your testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) therapy?would that cause your pit gland to shut down?if so,what can be done to kick in the gland again?

while i do agree with you to some extent i still think there are good doctors out there. i just went to a new one last Monday and i went about low T. first thing he brought up was testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) which i was very surprised at. also he seemed like he actually gave a shit unlike many doctors i have had. hopefully he knows his stuff and will get me on a good protocol.
