What are your opinions of open source boards?

I was a Mod on Triedia.. trust me... its a bad thing ...esp. when you find out that the actual owner is a source and wants you to push business to his people... (it also sucked when we found out he raped and killed a girl) :(

Well, this is an illegal activity we're discussing here. It seems only natural that it is going to attract a scummy element.

The open source boards can be a useful resource, if used with care, and if you do extensive source checks with mods on non-open-source boards before you send anyone any money. The open source boards are just about the only way for some people to get their foot in the door. I see them as a stepping stone, or a rite of passage, before the new user gains enough experience and connections to get plugged into better information networks.

What is merit and reputation in cyberspace?!?!

Bass knows this very well I'm sure, we have seen "Vets" go scammer too, it happens. If nobody trusted nobody, there WOULD be no internet sources to speak of, so obviously you put yourself out on a limb a little bit. We are all taking a risk even by being here, so give the guy a break and read into the words a little bit.

There are scammers everywhere, but if you hang around and stick with sources who have been around for more than a few months, get postive feedback from lots of various people

This is the same thing as a Vet being trusted, lots of people who know them and say "he is a good bro."

Just used for the third time a source from an open board, prices were lower... everything run smoothly... since they are in the open, they are really careful that the one ordering is really a user, they keep changing names, addresses, and locations they send the juice from. These sources in this board are checked (well, that is what they say...). Anyway, just my experience... :p
and don't ask me which one is.... ;)

So if I were to get an open source, how would that get me connections if I am doing everything through the mail? Would the source give me more sources? Wouldn't the original source want to keep me for themselves?

Or do you mean to try multiple open sources?

Some sources list thier sources are references - other than that I think he basically means that essentially it is time and contacts that bring about new contacts. This is how it happened for me, I signed up for a pay message board that had a member refered list, and learned of an underground source when chatting through secure email about some things with a certain member. I also had gotten scammed once during that time but those things can happen, you live and hopefully learn, thankfully I only lost $170 but of course I dont like losing money.

So basically IMO it is time that helps people out, but once you get started it usually should look pretty good from there, as long as people feel comfortable with you, but of course comfort itself is a risk, thats just life. We all make decisions to trust people or not in all of our daily lives not just the internet, your wife could be cheating on you and you trust or trusted her (otherwise you would not have married her) - so we trust people all the time that potentially could screw us, thats just how it is.

well I know of some legit sources who've advertised openly for over 5 years and have never been busted.

there are soo many sources these days you have to advertise just to keep biz coming in no matter how good your rep is :-)
