working out twice a day???? I know a lot of people that do it....but then a lot of people on this forum seem to think it's a bad idea???? HOw do you know if you are ready to take your intenisity of training up to that level???? I know that if you do you need to rest a lot and eat more frequently??? So if that's no problem then is it okay????? Open to anybody's suggestions/opinions....

overtraining and yes, it is a bad idea and will bring ya down in the long run. are your workouts like that? what's your routine?

right now I do 1 muscle group a day usualy like this

mon- chest
4-5 sets of flat bench
4 sets of incline
4 sets of decline machine press
3 sets of db flys either incline/decline/flat
3 sets of cable flys
3-4 sets of pullovers
calves/abs morning time/ after 20mins cardio

tue-bis/tris
4 setsskull crushers
4 setsbehind the neck presses w/one dumbbell
4 setscable extensions w/rope
4 sets of seated dumbbell curls
4 sets of straight bar curls standing
4sets of ez curl bar curls on preacher

wed legs
4-5 sets squats
3-4 sets heavy leg presses
4 sets leg extensions
4 sets leg curls
3 sets striaght legged deadlift
calves morning time

thur shoulders
4-5 sets of smith machine presses
4 sets upright row
4 sets of shrugs with barbell
3 sets of front raises with dumbbells
3 sets of side lateral raises with dummbellss
3 sets for rear delts either lying on a bench or bent over

fri back
4-5 sets of pullups with body weight
4 sets of dumbbell rows
3 sets of t-bar rows
4 sets of seated cable rows
3-4 sets of deadlift/back extensions
calves/abs morning 20 min cardio

for all of the sets I try for 10 for the first couple of sets then go for 6-8 on the rest. And maybe about a min to min and 1/2 of rest in between

before doing this routine I was going 2 on 1 off and had awesome results using the same workout above just divided up between the days. But I thought that maybe I would get better results if I did a big body part early in the day then hit a smaller one at nite....and I also wanted to split my leg workouts up to better hit the quads on one day and then hams the next time I trained legs......like I said I haven't started it yet...but when I get back to the states I was going to start a 2 times a day workout and see what happend....

damn dude..those are way too many.
I'd suggest ya to see some routine in the sticky posts like 5x5 or pullin's routine.
I won't lie, but you're already overtraining yourself.
I'd suggest ya cut down everything dude.
back looks good..would suggest to drop the cable row and add barbell rows. if you don't want too, you could just drop the sets to 2. but that's just me..

if you work out twice a day, you burn more calories (also increase claoric burn if you shorten rest between reps/sets)...good training to cut/lose bf

if your bulking, or just seeking mass gains, you need to offset your caloric burn by caloric intake, leading one to eat A LOT!!! or drink a lot of n-large type shakes per day...

re: your routine - what are your goals???

whats the point of training twice per day? is there something you cant accomplish in one training session?

aving said that many Powerlifters will do "extra" workouts but these most likely are not heavy lifts and dont take much time..

are you growing on your current routine? and who are these people that are doing so well training twice/day? add LOTS of drugs and almost anything will work some will work better than others

screw extra workouts, screw twice a day, if you have a life, once a day can be a fucking boat load.

Well right now I'm 5'9 about 220lbs, and about 10%BF theres a contest that I want to enter in november, so I have some time so I wanted to try and gain some more muscle before I have to start dieting for the show. So like I said before I would figure that if I eat enough like maybe 8 meals throughout the day and proper pre/post workout nutrition that I could grow on doing that. And by doing a 2 on 1 off routine that it would work a lot better. I mean I guess the only way that I will find out if it will work for me is by actually doing it for 1-2 months and monitoring my progress of course.

What I'm doing right now I am growing, but I guess I'm just not getting the overall results that I want. Maybe I'm not eating enough, but as much as everyone that I know bitches about it I sure do....there's a lot of guys in my gym that go twice a day and outweigh me by at least 20 lbs or more.....so talking with them I thought it may work for me....who knows huh????

If you don't work, have the time, are a quick recoverer, and have your drugs in order, it may work. Only one way to tell.

doesn't even arnold recomend in his encyclopaedia that you do about 20-25 sets per body part???

I don't know, but none of us are arnold, i know dorian did about 8 sets per bodypart, and a few of those were not heavy, at least for dorian. :)

come on man, Im sure he wrote parts of it, but some other dude would have "edited" it for him.

so I guess then he doesn't write the articles that say "from the governor" in flex or m&f?
