alrighty well just 2 weeks ago my girlfriend found out she has mono and so my guess is I probobly do tobut i haven't really had any serious symptoms anyways lets just say i have it for sure.... now i've been doing alot of researching and it says heavy lifting will cause your spleen to rupture and that you need a 2 month break? Now I'm not one to sit back and be a pussy so what i'm trying to get a second opinion on is the fact that I wan to only give it a wo week break at most due to the fact that i had just previouslly given a 3 week break becuase i was very busy with playing rugby during the season and i also had sustained a bad shoulder injury so about 2 weeks ago i had started back into a hard and 6 day a week work out which would be useless if I ha to just stop right away! anyways I'm just wondering If anyone else has had to go through having mono in the middle of trying to get serious gains. Also I want to know about taking stuff like creatine and M1T while i still have the mono????

Thanks

When i had mono i was in grade 9. all i wanted to do was sleep and masterbate and watch game shows all day.

Keep in mind, heavy training could kill your immune system, So first sight of symptoms, I'd hit a higher calorie diet, l'glutamine and VC hard.

good advice ... i think he should even start taking these supplements now as prophylaxis. take the glutamine 4-6g a day and vit Ester-C 1000-1500mg a day. the glutamine is sure to work while you're sick but the vitamin C is much more useful for prevention then for a cure.
weight lifting takes a lot of energy out of you..and if you can even do it while you're sick I'd suggest doing light weight just to maintain. and drink a lot of water!

First off it not inevitable that you will get mono (although it is likely). Secondly, like Blackbeard said, training through it will do more harm than good. And thirdly, taking something like M1T will just put more strain on your immune system, something it doesn't need.

Take it easy and let your body heal.

id let your body heal, plus isn't mono contagious?? dont want to go given it out at your gym if it is. just let your body rest.

HOLY SHIT that's the longest sentence ever!
I'm with everyone else, just relax and let your body heal. I've had mono and had to quit every sport I played. I decided that not playing sports was better than rupturing my spleen.

You are not a pussy for taking a break... you are what we call smart.

I had mono a few years ago and you won't be able to do jack shit in the weight room anyways.

Take some time to get better then hit the gym when it is safe to do so.

In the mean time focus on your diet to make sure you don't lose too much size and ensure you are feeding your body with enough nutrients to heal

I don't mean to bump this or anything, but would y'all say "no" to doing cardio with mono?? Most of what y'all have said is "no lifting!" which I've already been doing, per my recruiter's request...but I just found out yesterday that I have mono, yet I'm not sure if I want to stop doing cardio...I'm paranoid, I guess, that my metabolism will slow and any losses I've made will return, even if I'm not eating (my throat is so swollen, i can barely swallow)...I dunno :dunno:...Just looking for some advice...As much as I love being told to drink plenty of fluids and just sleep, I don't think I can without getting restless...

Gosh, if you mono is anything like the mono that I had, you will feel so sick that training and cardio will be an obvious non-option. I did have to get stitches when I had mono, but that's another story.

Yeah...I figured if taking a shower is wearing me out, that it's probably not smart to do cardio...but it's killing me...blah...
