Working with a Trainer and Dietitian

What are the benefits and drawback of working with a trainer and a dietitian before a show?

How much does it usually cost for a dietitian to get you ready for a show. I am looking for an approximate amount as I know that it can vary depending on the person and their reputation.

What about a trainer? If you train alone in the offseason is there a benefit to using a trainer during your contest prep?

I am pretty curius beause I do want to compete in the near future.

I'd say it all depends on who you're working with. Try to get someone that specifically works with bodybuilders. That's really all I can offer.

I think needsize had someone helping him with his diet for his contest, and it sure as hell worked for him.

Fyre was working with him, but she's a few hours away from me so I don't think that would work out very well :D

Depends on who it is. A top guy like Chad Nichols charges a flat fee of $2,500 for a national show. A good local guy will probably charge around $400.00. So like i said it all depends. But $400.00 is probably a good price to start with. As for a trainer in the gym that depends where you live also. Charles Glass charges $100.00 / hour. In my area $35.00 - $50.00 is about the average.

So my suggestion would be to go to a local show and ask the competitors who got them ready. You could try beverly international nutrition they do free diets but they recommend their products, which are top notch, just to damn expensive.

I don't think I would need a trainer because I do pretty well on my own. My problem would be the nutritional aspect of the contest prep that would need help. I know what to eat and all that, but I need someone there to monitor me and let me know what I need to switch in my diet to maximize fat loss and preserve muscle mass. If something isn't working I want that person who can say... "well, eat this and don't eat that. Try doing _______for cardio" etc.

Fyre didnt help me with my training, but she designed my diet for me, and more importantly, she prepared me for the show itself. Teaching my how to pose, forcing me to practice till I got it right. If I hadnt of used a trainer for my first show, I think I would have been embarassed up there

That's why I am looking into it right now. When I do a contest I want to be the most ripped guy on stage (kinda like you were).

I am an ISSA trainer but I have never trained a Bodybuilder. I would look specifacally for a trainer that trains bodybuilders for shows. A regular trainer can help but you need someone who has done a show themselves or already trained someone for a show. It can be hard to find. Charles Glass is only 100 an hour? Wow. I charge 50 an hour.

Shit. I wish I had you guys as my clients. I see people drop out and get pissed everyday. I honestly think alot of you guys should look into getting certified just for the knowledge. I never have questions about diet or training hardly, just anabolics.

I think contest dieting is a little more tricky that the "I want to get ripped for summer" diet. Timing is everything and I think I would fu&% that part up big time. I am just looking for one person to be that watchful eye making sure I am on track and will peak at the right moment.
