...and it doesn't have shit to do with lifting iron.

My cardiovascular health is pure shit right now, and I have the lack of endurance, high BP, high cholesterol, and high resting pulse to prove it.

A 15 foot sprint run and I'm fucking winded.

So tonight, with the wife and child gone, I jumped on the treadmill. Set it for 6.5% incline and just 4.0mph. Not much for a normal person, but very difficult for me past about 30 seconds. After about two minutes, I thought I was going to fucking die.

I ran for 1.01 miles. Just over 15 minutes. Hit 'STOP', and fell onto the floor. Laying in a pool of sweat (hardwood floors), I finally got up after several minutes.

Ouch! Both calf muscles fucking cramped. Couldn't even stand up. Stretched 'em and stood up and then the quads started cramping.

Anyway, I hope that tonight marks a turning point for me. My wife runs nearly twice as fast as this, at five times the distance, several times/week.

Lots of hard work ahead.

nice work man...ur heart rate would have been off this planet...wish i could do walking for my cardio but its impossible to get my HR up

Fuck cardio.
I keep saying im gonna do cardio...it lasts at best for a wk or so and then i say what insane man just said fuck cardio :P
its tough...if u wanna reach new goals more power 2 ya. I'd personally rather lift tho :D

i got one of those pulling sleds, i really enjoy it for cardio.

the great thing about cardio is it doesn't take long to get results. after 2 weeks you'll be doing 4+ times the amount you can do now, if you keep going hard.

good luck

it gets easier. I was the same way a few months ago. now the main limiting factor in my cardio sessions in boredom, not sucking wind.

Even in the world of powerlifting . SOme cardio is a good trhing and will help you.
In regards to not loosing muscle mass, high protein intake helps. So do high androgens. :D

Switching focus to more health related concerns, intense cardio (especially when using androgens) can increase the risk of an enlarged heart. And at the same time, it can decrease the risk. lol. Kind of a contradiction.

Another new PR, 5-JUL-2006:

  • non-stop
  • 6.5% incline
  • 4mph
  • 18 mins
  • 1.2 miles
  • even more post cardio cramping than last night

Whats the goal with the cardio, fat loss or cardiovascular conditioning?
Cardiovascular conditioning. I agreed to do a triathlon with my wife, plus my health can benefit from it.

Regardless, I expect that fat loss will occur. Hell, it has already started, I do think.

Anytime I jog on an incline my calves cramp up...I would say the potassium plus ample stretching afterwards.

Have her jog in place in front of the treadmill naked with a small sign on her back promising anal sex if you keep up.....

Another new PR, 7-JUL-2006:

  • non-stop
  • 6.5% incline
  • 4mph
  • 21 mins
  • 1.4 miles
  • post cardio cramping was reasonable; did take potassium supplement prior to w/o

9-JUL-2006:

  • Run with some walking
  • Outside
  • 3.5 miles
  • 45 minutes
  • average speed is therefore 4.66mph

13-JUL-2006:

  • Outside
  • 2 miles
  • 20-21 minutes
  • Run until the 1.7mile mark. Walked for less than .1 miles. Ran the rest

14-JUL-2006:

  • Outside
  • Ran .2 miles, stopped for 30 seconds to talk with someone
  • Ran 1.8 miles
  • Gone for 23 minutes

19-JUL-2006:

  • Outside
  • Ran ~2 miles, but walked parts of the end
  • Gone for maybe 23 minutes, perhaps less

24-JUL-2006:

  • Outside
  • Did squats yesterday and the legs are really feeling it today already
  • Ran ~2 miles, hesitated just briefly twice for cars
  • Paced, ran kind of slow it seemed
  • Focused more on rolling the foot to ease tension on the shins
  • Gone for 22 minutes

28-JUL-2006:

  • Outside
  • Ran/Walked ~3.6 miles
  • The running was too damn slow. Next time, I won't focus on pacing myself
  • Gone for 42 minutes. :(
