anyone have a workout for MMA fighters?

when i get serious about training grappling, i switch to a basic 2 day routine .

I always stretch before and after each workout to keep flexibility. Also I would not suuplement any more cardio beucase i would be hitting the wrestling mats 3x a week.

But to be quite honest I do not train kickboxing\grappling\boxing to enter an octagon, I train submission wrestling just for sport.

I know that randy and ortiz like the calethstetics(spelling?) and lots of uphill sprints.

I have a video where tito is doing leg press with explosive power very quicklly.

I personally found that a basic pullinbig routine cut down to a 2 a week along with brazillian jusjistsu for cardio worked well for me.

BTW, what do you train and what are your goals?

GOod luck brotha

it all depends on your goals, and years training.if youre looking to get quicker transition time-heavy on the plyos, high reps on the wieghts, cut down the rest time between sets.. things like this. if youre looking to get stronger i'd give you a diffrent setup, lots of body wieght exercises, slow structured form based lifting- what are you shooting for? the way that structure my workouts is alot difrent than my training partners, all because our goals are diffrent.

There are many fighters who aren't strong, mostly the judo and jiu jitsu guys and still manage to do well, it's all about what style(s) you use

True but name me 1 fighter who wouldn't benefit from increased strength?

I train in grappling 2x per week. I cycle my routine. I lift with high reps and lots of super sets for endurance for 2 months, then a basic strength routine for awhile... then moderate volume for a couple of months...I try and get the best of all worlds.

Seems pretty solid to me.

I was doing a westside routine for a while, about 8 months. I loved powerlifting but I got way too fat, felt like shit and looked like shit. I got back into kenpo a few months back and i could barely make it through the workouts, so i cleaned up my diet and started doing cardio. i went from 17%BF@ 206lbs to 9.1% @171lbs. since january. the problem is I lost quite a bit of muscle and strength in the process. so im looking for a routine that will allow me to have endurance, flexibility but also keep gaining lean mass and strength. I definately want to keep squatting and deadlifting, but I dont know quite how to structure a routine based on it. Ill be starting BJJ soon also.

You got fat, felt like shit, and looked like shit because your diet wasnt in check and you were skippin out on the cardio.

I hope you dont think that powerlifting routine= being fat.

Powerlifters are heavily muscled and lots are shredded as well.

This statement is garbage. Did I ever mention my diet? dont jump to conclusions. I was taking in extra calories to keep my strength and recovery up. but not from junk food.
The extra weight was mostly solid but I didnt like carrying that much weight. Im not a big guy.

I never said this either.

yes there are a few, but most are not shredded. Its a different training approach for different goals. my goals have changed now and I asked for advice, not rude comments. I also said I want to keep squatting and deadlifting so Im not abandoning it all together.

I did not make any rude comments. You said you were getting fat and the way you stated, it was related to the powerlifting routine.

No routine makes you fat, your diet is what makes you gain fat...that is all that i am saying.

Squating should be a part of every routine weather it be westside, HIT, HST, max-ot, DC, pullinbigs basic routine, etc etc.

And BTW I did post my experience with weight training and grappling in post #4.

Take my comments however you want to take them.

yep doesn't matter how you train, if your eating over maintance and not keeping up with cardio, you get FAT...it's all about diet/cardio IMO as far as fat goes...and the statements blackjack made, made it sound like you were blaming PL on your being fat and feeling/looking like shit...i find it also funny that you state you cleaned up your diet and started doing cardio to lose wt...hmmm but your right your diet wasn't shit and you weren't skimping on cardio prior to this wt lose either...it must have been the PL routine you were on..

shit, I did say that didnt I.. :Pat:
mostly what I did here was cut carbs and threw in some thermogenics pre workout/cardio. anyway what I waas mostly getting at is the fact that I just didnt feel comfortable being 206 lbs. even though I was stronger than ever it just wasnt practical for me.
-mister69- I apologize for the quick retort about my diet and such. I get defensive sometimes when I shouldnt. thanks for the input you gave in #4 I do appreciate it.
Im still trying to adjust to being a lightweight again.
