So as far as ive seen , anyone who has arms over a certain size has always had their weight over a certain size . ive never seen a bodybuilder 5'7" 210lb with 23" arms from lean bulking ... lee Priest .... achieved this .off season weighs some 280lb . From what im gathering , in order to produce those size arms , one must drasticly raise their body weight (mass) , train at that weight for a while , then cut down . As far as i know anyone with massive massive arms does huge bulking phases and cuts down .

I could see how that could be true but I wonder how much muscle you actually build when you get that fat...and Lee got fat in the off season!! He's always had genetically gifted arms so I think that also has a great deal to do with it. Some people's arms respond really well to just a little training and others have to bust their ass just to eek out a 1/4 - 1/2". I have a buddy who's 6'5" and brags to me all the time how his arms are 21" but he's also 60 - 70 pounds overweight. Now if he lost the extra pounds I wonder how much of that 21"s he'd actually keep??

Mine do to, they just bust out, but my legs calf's are another story...

Some bodybuilders do other things to get their arms, calves, traps, etc... to appear bigger. Yes genetics come into play but they only get you so far. Some of these guys arms and what not have nothing to do with genetics or training. I'll leave it at that. There is truth though to having bigger arms means more mass. You can't have 20's without having mass...

Proportion is everything in bodybuilding. Some people have symmetry handed to them on genetic platter. Others have to work hard at it to bring up weaker points.

For instance tom platz had genetically freaky legs, and his upper body never caught up to his lower body, although he was still pretty good

I'm waiting on Halfwit to share his secret here. Actually seen him post once, recently that it comes with a lot of work, in his case anyways. Which my guess is that its the same for most. I've noticed for me personally that when I stick to a heavy lifting regimen for arms and everything else for that matter, eat right my arms grow the most. Consistent gains over time, again along with the rest of my body. I do agree, our bodies naturally tend to be proportionate.

Best gains on for my arms have been this year. I've been able to put almost an inch on them since may. The key for me was stretching and increasing my mobility in my shoulders. It freed up a lot of tension as my shoulders naturally roll forward. Intense stretching between every set and Supersets bi/tris.

I always wondered if it had to do with being well-fed, ALL the time.

Like, imagine a plant.. feed it too little and it's leaves will wilt and eventually harden and fall, the stem and root however, will remain intact for much longer. Similar to that of a human... our extremities will get less love when in a survival situation, this ensures the most important parts of our existence remain intact (organs)..

Does this apply to regular, everyday growth of our Arms and Legs?

If we train, but don't consistently stay in a caloric surplus, will our body prioritize muscle growth closer to the torso before it will the bi's, tri's, forearms, and even calves?

This is probably silly, and easily explained as incorrect.. but I've always liked the idea of it.

I have no clue but some of what you said makes sense. If you use Priest as an example he would get huge in the off season but most of it was fat. He carried most of his fat in his upper torso yet when he ripped down he was still huge. So I wonder if the reverse is true, if people tend to carry more fat on their lower torso and legs is it easier for them to build legs? Again, I have no clue so I'm just spit balling here. My legs have never had any fat on them yet they're absolutely the hardest body part for me to build and I've hit them from every angle with all different weight and rep scheme's over the years...over a lot of years!

Try Hypertrophy Specific Training. Since you're on an AAS forum, I'm assuming you're using.. and would likely achieve similar results. Mine have been fantastic. Legs have always been a week point for me too..

Though, you'll have to rest in between every workout, some aren't willing to make the commitment of NOT going into the gym.. and spoil the programs worth.

Research it well, it was developed by Bryan Haycock. Very cool program. I love it personally. And my legs have been taking off since starting it. People have commented on seeing them through my pants when I walk, and my butt getting larger, etc. :D

Thanks Hypnotix, I will def give it a look!!

I've got the same deal with my arms. Maybe because about 1985 I started doing heavy arm curls and bench press in my basement. Flipping through muscle magazines and cranking tunes. My arms were over 18 inches when I weighed about 175 lbs. I'm around 245 at six feet, still have my upper abs and my arms are 20 cold. Legs aren't as good but ok, calves suck.lol I barely train arms at all because they just jump ahead of everything else too quickly. I'm a Highland games athlete so I put on about 15 lbs. I season. Sorry for the long winded response. Cheers.

I pin into my triceps, adds a quick 1/2 inch. Ha-ha. Yesterday a car salesman asked me how I got such big arms. Lol. I said mostly genetics and I grew up on a dairy farm.
