Blast your Bench (PLEASE LOOK IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT)

A while ago I read about this book called Blast Your Bench.

It looks like a bunch of bullshit, but I'm really desperate to boost up my chest and I want to try this out. I used to be benching 315, 3 weeks without working out and I'm down on 225 for the next 2 months. It's really pissing me off, I'm not gaining anything. I think I'm gonna try this.

It's interesting to read, looks so incredibly fake, but I want to try it out since it's so cheap. Anyone ever read of this or try it out?

I wouldn't waste your money or your time, because really..... there are 10x better ways to grow your chest than bench press. That and the claims it makes on the website are complete bullshit. The whole "I can bench XXX for XX reps" is the whole male cock-war. Check your ego at the door and concentrate on building your chest properly instead of building just your bench press. (Unless of course your a powerlifter going into a bench competition, then ignore everything i've just said. But based on you saying "I want to boost up my chest" your looking for development) If your really worried about the number your lifting on your bench press, go buy yourself a bench-shirt, you'll be back to 315 on your very next workout. Guaranteed.

did you have alot of bad habits during those 3 weeks? Did you just come off a cycle? Thats a whole lot of strenght to lose in that short a period of time even if you did absolutley nothing gym related.

I'm usually a little stronger after 2 weeks off, 3 weeks and my bench might be down 10 lbs. You are INCREDIBLE.

And yes, that routine is bullshit.

I bought the PDF maybe 3 years ago? Never used any of it, didn't look good to me even back then. JMO

Well my arm was broken so for a little more then 3 weeks I couldn't go to the gym. So when I returned (about 2 months ago) I started off with chest, and I was repping 225 15 times but before my break I could've repped 315 about 10 times. So I lost a lot of chest. And since I returned, I havn't gained much at all which is my worry, so I was thinking of trying that.

No1Stunna - where can I get a bench shirt from? How much do they go for?

Thanks for the replies.

I think you just answered your own reasoning for the loss in power on your bench. Your target muscle on the bench press is the chest, but your synergist is your front deltoid and your triceps, with your bicep being the stabilizer. Having a broken arm will cause you to lose a lot of strength in that arm which will limit the amount you can push. I'm willing to bed your strength is down when training shoulders and triceps as well right?

As far as a bench shirt goes, I don't know where to buy them or how much because I don't compete in bench contests. Basically it's a shirt that's so damn tight on you it requires that much more weight just to bring your arms down, making it "easier" to push it up. Anybody that sells powerlifting gear should have these.

So this guy is promising 50lbs gains in 3 weeks and you lost 90lbs in 3 weeks, so wouldn't that still leave you 40lbs short of where you were? :dunno:

Well I think my arm is recovered. For everything but chest I'm still making gains like I used to, it's just chest that stays the same. Every chest day (twice a week at the max) I'm doing the same exact weight if not a little less, and I have no idea why. But everything else I'm progressing.

so you are repping 225 for 15 right? Why don't you put more weight on? If you just keep lifting the same weight then you aren't going to get stronger. What I'm saying is try something INBETWEEN 225 and 315, say 265?

lets get this straight. you broke your arm and then three weeks later you think its healed so you go back to the gym to bench? is this correct? did you go to a doc and get x rayed or was the bone sticking out of the skin. this whole thread is not making any sense. i find it hard to belive you repped 315 for "about" 10 (this sounds fishy as well) then 3 weeks later you could only rep 225. did you try to rep 315? btw hows your squats and deads looking?

I dont squat but I do deadlift. Also, the doctor said not to return to the gym for another month but I told him to fuck off and let me work out. I feel no pain in my arm so it feels recovered, also like I said everything but chest is progressing.

I'll post my last chest workout tomorow morning, and also one from about 3 months ago. I don't remember my scores perfectly but I have them all saved in a book, and I'll overlook them and post them.

Stinn - what I'm saying is I usually start with a warmup set of 15 reps, move down to 10, then 8 then 6 then 3. Last week I think I ended on 275 for three reps, I'll check my book and post my workout tomorow.

you told your doctor to fuck off cause he said to give your broken arm more time to heal? why dont you squat if may ask?

Sounds pretty funny 2 me. WTF....u don't squat and u're worried about your bench, but u bench 2x a wk and now u have a broken arm and ur'e still worried about benching. Heres a tip...listen to your doc...he prob. knows what hes talking about, u really don't want the extra stress on a recovering limb....another thing...sounds like u're overtraining chest...how can it grow when u're training it 2x a wk(not giving yourself enough recovery time)....now, while your arm is healing, let it heal and let the rest of your chest recover...IN THE MEANTIME do some SQUATS...u want bigger #'s...do squats...keep doing dls(maybe throw in some GM's and SLDL for variation).
Let me tell u a story....several yrs ago(when i was still pretty new to lifting) I did all upper body...think i benched 2x a wk also...well, i hit a plateau, then after the plateau i actually started loosing weight/strenght....took xmas vacation for 3 wks and came back to bench and was 20lbs stronger. Lesson learned(at least to some degree)...it doesn't pay to over train. Especially w/an injury. Don' t be a dumbass.
