BP issues- those in medical field advice appr

I'm very concious of my BP either on or off aas. About 4 years ago I was put on Atenolol and Hydrochlorothiazide. At the time I was put on these meds my BP ran roughly 140/90 several consecutive times at the docs office, mind you usually months apart and it ran about the same every time give or take a few points. Then I began light cycling (anavar/primo/eq)and bought a BP monitor instead of walking into the docs office everyday so I can monitor it at home. Now i do get a bit anxious in the office but at home it will usually run 120-130/70-85 would this be a more accurate reading of my BP? I have an omron manual unit with an extra large cuff, if my cuff at home was the issue(to small) i would think the numbers would be inflated rather than normal reading.I dont like the fact that it gets that high even at the doctors office. As far as BP meds go I dont notice any more urination taking the hydrchrolothiazide and the atenolol seems to make no difference in my readings especially at the docs office, The BP runs the same at the office before I started the meds. The only thing I do notice fron the atenolol is a sig. drop in heart rate sometimes up to 30 beats.Am I just worrying to much or could there be better meds to try. My doctor seems content in the fact that its being controlled 140/90,that doesn't sit well with me. Please help

Atenelol is a beta blocker and will not alter your BP, it will only moderate your heart rate and keep it from racing.

There aren't many medical professionals left around here, but I guess you got lucky because bigdaddy22 showed up.

Take your blood pressure upon waking before you get out of bed and see what that is.

Whats the cardio like? If you aren't doing cardio then do it. For your health, cardio is superior to the meds.

I just started doing cardio again 2 weeks ago usually 5 days a week for 30 min. Ive finished up a cycle 3 months ago and have since taken time off from the weights.

Bigdaddy22 that is correct. Example today a didnt take my BP meds, at home this afternoon on my monitor 120/82 heart rate 90, when I take the meds for instance and monitor again at home same BP give or take a few points nut heart rate 55.In the office 135/140-80/90. Are the meds even doing anything for my BP Or is the reading in the office just higher dure to anxiety, as I said before the meds my BP was the same in the office as it is now on the meds.

Sounds like you have white coat syndrome. Very common for someones BP to elevate in the office. Keep a log of you BP for a week 2-3 times a day. Show the long to the Doc he'll adjust as needed. Dosn't look to bad to me. The bottom could be better but its boarderline and should lower based on the info and keep the cardio. Also lay off any coffee or products that may raise your BP before going to the office, if there are any.

Those of you that do take yours at home how do your home units measure up in accuracy to when you have it taken at the docs.

I'm in the same boat, "white coat syndrome", at the docs mine's ~140/90, at home it's almost always 122/78. Never started any meds though. Heart rate is elevated at the office as well but that might be because my doc is a hottie :)
Edit: Also, mine elevates to about 132/86 while "on" but I'm going to try taking a little HCTZ to hopefully keep it down next cycle.

Hey GIGGUNS I'm in the same situation to you...my BP has been 140-150 / 80-90 for around 6months now...I'm trying everything to lower it, garlic tabs seemed to help a bit and cardio was the best...but it's still around 140/80 :(

High BP is bad as it can lead to LVH (Left Ventricular Hypertophy) or as you hear in the press enlarged heart which quite alot of famous people have died of.

As it stands at the mo I can feel my heart beating most of teh time, I don't like teh heart palitations and I know it's related to teh high BP.

I have a echogram coming up soon and a Treadmill ECG to try and diagnoise... so trust me I know how much it sux....Can't start my cycle until my BP is down :(

NOT TRUE....completely false. Beta blockers are used for BP control. Atenelol is commonly given for hypertension.

One down side is that in some men, (like me) it makes your you know what stop working. Had to switch meds....
