Hi guys. i am new here and have a question. I am constantly in an argument with my partner about when to wear a belt for deads/squats and when he shouldn't. We have never maxed out but are doing about 375 for 6 to 8 reps on the last set. We are both 31yrs old and i am 67in 175lbs, he is 70in 185lbs. Never have we had any problems but he is new to the exercise and is f**king driving me crazy with his compaining about "i think we should, ect.ect.ect......." By the way, love the site.

wtf?

I think your asking if you should wear a belt when doing deads.

Answer: If you have had back problems in the past then yes otherwise no.

It's all up to the individual. Belts can be used for lower back support or for tightening up the core to get a bigger lift. It takes two different belt positions to acheive these too.

you guys are only 175 Lbs but pullin 375 for 8, um i dunno about that one. you also said you just started training. it's o.k. to post real #'s no -one should be embarrasede what they pull.

Oh and no belt unless back problem even then they dont do shit

dlove, negative. I said he is new to the exercise. We both have over 6 years experience between us but have truely began to listen to our bodies in the last 8-10 mos. I know that i should use belts for my heavier lifts and that by not using them strengthens my core, i just wanted you guys takes on the subject. And sorry bro, those are real #'s. Appreciate the replys though.

depends on what you are trying to do
if you wanna build strength in your low back i would keep the belt off for deads or only use one on your top sets and wear it loose

i use a belt always when squatting or doing GM's..it allows me to use more of my abs
