Does Anyone do Barbell lifts?

I like doing these and normally incorporate them into my program but I always seem to go up in weight too fast and then get stuck- I was going through my workout notes from the past year and I never really made a ton of progress. Anyone like these for mass?

This is how I do them

I never do them. I just use the cable machines for that. Basically the same thing except your body has to support the weight. I don't see the advantage really.

Thanks Georgia, the reason I asked is because I never see anyone doing them. I like them but I never progress beyond a certain point.

Yeah not many people do them. There is a difference between barbell bench and cable bench. You use your stabilizer muscles more....but in this particular exercise I just don't see the benefits. You're pulling straight up...doesn't need stabilization. IMO I think the cable row with the wide handles are just as effective if not more effective...you can do more weight because for one, your body doesn't have to physically hold up that weight while you're rowing.

Classic line in the article:

Look - if you're one of those steroid meat heads who spends more time with his drug-supplier than on training, you'll grow no matter how you Barbell Row.

:spit:

I hate the barbell row. I find it pretty much impossible to get a goo scapular retraction so I just stick to dumbell variations. Just my personal preference but it feels much better I think.

Also, barbell rows are quite taxing on the low back, which is something else I have to be conscious of

^^^ This. Regular and reverse grip (I alternate every few weeks) are great for developing back thickness. I also do pendlay rows from time to time, but enjoy the stretch from BB rows better.

I think fewer and fewer people get away from BB row because as the weight gets added on, the movement turns into yate rows, which hit at a different angle then BB rows. They get consumed by thinking what other people see them pulling instead of being concerned with full ROM and focusing on max stretch and contraction of the muscle...

I am pretty sure that is what my problem is

Agreed. But it is hard to beat the contraction you get on a BB row when you do use proper weight and form.
