Everyone’s thoughts on corticosteroid injections

So I’ve been battling shoulder issues since I started lifting 4 years ago. I have partial tears in both rotator cuffs from work related injuries. My right shoulder became almost useless after I 1st started lifting so I had a steroid injection and rehabbed it myself. Since then it has done well. My left has been bothering me for some time and is continuing to get worse despite me rehabbing it several times and adjusting my workouts.
I’ve read that corticosteroids actually cause more damage then good, but that relief sure is nice.
So my questions are: are they really that bad?...are there some peptides or other supps out there that really help?...am I better off to continue trying to rehab and forget everything else?

If this belongs on another section. I apologize and please let me know and I’ll move it

Over time Corticosteroid Injections can cause Tendon Weakening or Rupture.
And thinning of nearby Bone or Osteoporosis.
There are other possible Side Effects, but those are the ones that any Lifter should be concerned about.

So 1 or maybe 2 Injections would be OK.
If you Exhausted all other Remedies.

Peptides can help in some Instances.
But if you have a Torn Rotator Cuff, the only alternative may be Surgery.
You need to see a Specialist for that determination...................................... JP
P.S.
Before my Double Hip Replacement, I had 14 Intra-Articular Cortisone Shots.
I was walking Bone on Bone by the time of Surgery, the Cartilage was completely gone.

I’ve read all the same things about the steroid and I’ve seen a specialist on both shoulders and I was told to just use them until they tear completely then they would operate. I definitely definitely don’t want to go that route at 34. I had just read and heard some outlandish claims on Tb-500, igf-1, and sarms on joint therapy but as far as science goes the only thing regrowing connective tissue is hgh that I knew of

The good; I tell everyone cortisone is proof that there is a God and that he loves us. If I thought I could buy it on the black market and inject myself i would.

The bad; I have been receiving epidural injections about 3x/ year for the last 15 years and once it kicks in I turn into superman for the next 7 days due to its systemic effect. I get 6 injections 3 each side of the spine. Day 8 its like someone flips a switch and the feel goods go away and my pain comes back to a certain extent but we do them because it gets me thru a rough time or if am going to travel i'll get them so my travels are not miserable. At the gym doing reps instead of slowing down the rep speed on the last rep or two like normal I end up banging out the entire set at the same speed I get to where i know I am going to fail and blast right thru there for another 2 - 3 reps then its like my body hits a wall and i cant do another rep; this cant be healthy. I have zero muscle soreness afterwards but my joints hurt the next day around the muscle groups i worked the day before and its a very unhealthy pain. Kinda like the way I remember the professional baseball pitchers destroying their elbows with cortisone injections when i was a kid.

I think its a great drug probably ok for short term use to rehab or something but its known to cause damage to surrounding tissue and bone so i would avoid long term use if that's an option.

not a fan of it.. it only masks the pain which can lead to further injury

that should be used when the pain is so bad that it constantly hurts and youre going to take the necessary time to recover without working out..

it shouldn't be used to push through the pain

Like JP said, the common wisdom is 1 or 2 is OK if it makes rehab possible, and only after many months of trying everything else. And respecting the fact that you've had the shot and keep your rehab light until you're sure its better.

People who get repeated shots are quite likely to experience full tendon ruptures - you can read like a million medical journals documenting them.

Here's a good one - https://emj.bmj.com/content/emermed/12/4/300.full.pdf
