Finally got back to the Gym....

Well, after 6 months of doing zero exercise, let alone weights, I finally joined a good local gym. Yesterday was my first weight workout since late August. Needless to say, I'm in pain today. Anyway, I;m just glad to get my fat weak ass back into the gym....Here's a question, how long do you guys think it will take me to get back to where I was in August? I was benching about 285 regularly via the 5x5 method. yesterday I did 3 sets of 10 of 135 :dunno: . That's all I could muster. I know that's a vaugue question but I'm hoping I'll be back to full strength in a month or two. Thanks in advance, and It's good to be back.

Depends on how much muscle you lost. If you didn't lose much then you should regain strength as your CNS once again becomes conditioned. This can come quickly.

Well, after 2 weeks back into it, I'm frustrated because I can't lift weight for shit. I was benching 275 for reps(not a lot but good for me being 180lb's and natty) and today I struggled repping 135. I'm miserable. Sorry, just venting.

Any words of encouragement???

Just make sure you don't overtrain.

What is your routine like?

I know it seems intuitive to work extra hard and long to 'make up' for lost time, but after being out of the gym for so long, thats the worst thing you can do.

Keep at it bro...Im kind of in the same boat...I was out of the gym for about 5 months due to an injury and some other stuff...just got back yesterday. Went into it expecting the worst...lol..so im not too surprised. You will get it all back and surpass your previous best...keep hitting it hard. I have to keep telling myself also...
Good luck!

It will come back just give it time. All my lifts have gone up by at least 50 pounds in the past two months. That was after 3+ years off.

Hey Bro.
I just had a 6 month downtime due to back problems.
I have just started training again and I could only do 60lb dumbell bench presses.
I tried a deadlift of 180lbs and it felt like a ton :( only comfortably did 5 reps.
as for my arms and that It doesnt seem like i have lost much muscle at all.
Im trying to find the best training program for someone just starting off again.

Full body routines maybe?
anyone know good thread on beginners program?

I think it's actually harder to take it easy, then it is to just hit the weights hard. I'm trying not to do it all at once. I've got about 2 solid weeks under my belt now and I'm downing Opt. Nut Whey like nobody's business.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I don't exactly have a routine I'm following yet, I'm sort of playing things by ear. I'm also for the first time doing Squats and DL's because of all the good things I've heard about them.

Anybody want to post a good routine for me?
:)

didn't you say needsizes' 5x5 routine was working good for you before?
why don't you ease your way back into that?

Yes, I think that's what I'm going to end up doing.....It got good gains from it before so I'm going to give that a shot first.
