HCG for weight loss? .............

had a followup up with my Dr. - getting dialed into TRT. I asked him about his thoughts on HCG. He gave the usual info about fertility but also mentioned he uses it to learn out overweight guys. I'm not even close to being overweight and am done with kids.

folks here had any leaning benefits from HCG? This seems to be a disputed topic from what I'm reading.. looking for input from folks with experience.

my god your doc is an idiot..

damn fad hcg diet going around..

lets starve you but keep you on hcg.. yea thats a great idea

HCG for weightloss... LOL. It just bumps your total test up a couple hundred points and keeps you in normal range.

Hmm, can't find the gem that really lays it out, but you can provide your doc with some reading material:

Mechanisms of hormone action: luteinizing hormone receptors and second-messenger pathways. - PubMed - NCBI

Sex hormone synthesis, regulation, and function | McMaster Pathophysiology Review

In fact, HCG use for weight loss has been banned by the FDA for several decades now. There was a resurgence of the ridiculous fad due to the Internet allowing scammers to make a quick buck off the ignorant, but your doctor really should know better.

Hope these help, as they show just how LH (what HCG mimics) is important to us men.

My .02c :)

I hate HCG as a solo protocol...
I need at least 1500 iu a week and it kills my appetite..
Messes with my sleep too...

The doc has signs all over his office "lose 30lbs in 30 days" HCG diet. FYI - his office is also a weight loss clinic.

Thanks for the posts - It's very clear what everyone's thoughts are on this topic.

You seriously need a new doctor -- or at least recognize that he is simply a means to getting a prescription. I highly doubt that heeding any of his advice would be good for your health. You will have to lead him by the nose.

I'm pretty sure I made a post about this before, but since no one uses the search bar here we go again:

The effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the treatment of obesity by means of the Simeons therapy: a criteria-based meta-analysis. - PubMed - NCBI

That is a meta-analysis looking at ALL the available data on HCG use for fat loss, and look at this for a conclusion:

"We conclude that there is no scientific evidence that HCG is effective in the treatment of obesity; it does not bring about weight-loss of fat-redistribution, nor does it reduce hunger or induce a feeling of well-being."

When a guy tells you HCG causes fat loss but he needs you to eat only 500cals per day for it to work AND the diet is somehow "different from anything else out there" - you should use your nose and smell the bullshit :)

Funny I was just asking my TRT doc why he's always out of HCG lately as my BIL is a pharmacist and says he's never out of it (CVS). He told me the compounding pharmacy they use has been overloaded by people on that weight loss program. First I'd heard of it. Doc told me they use a high dose and it kills their appetite. I really don't know anything about it but it seems like a horrible idea to use HCG to try and correct a dietary issue.
