Help!!! National bikini competitor with extremely damaged metabolism!

Mrs. P is right.... I have been limiting my carbs after 2pm... I have them for breaky (oatmeal) and for lunch (brown rice, sweet potato, etc) ...no carbs for dinner.... snacks are always a combination of protein, greens and sometimes a little of good fats.... but usually just protein and green veggies. :)

you're right sorry everybody

its the female forum bud.. leave the hormone driven questions to the chat forum.. lets let the women have their sanctity here... so we all must be respectful..

glad you agree :D

Hi,

How many calories are u currently eating with this diet ? and what are your stats ?
The one thing I would do is not have the sweet potato with your last meal, u should keep your last meal just protein & greens.

I do think carb cycling works really well, it looks complicated it but it really isn't.. you pretty much keep your carb storage full and then slowly empty it by cutting your intake of carbs, once they are depleted, you can start replenishing & restocking your glycogen stores...
So on hte low days your allowing your body to burn your available fat supply.

There are different "patterns" or "cycles" of carb cycling, I like to do a 3 days low carb followed by one day of higher carbs.. some do 2 days followed by one day og higher carbs.

Here's a breakdown so u get an idea.

Higher carbs days

Carbs/ 1.0 grams per pound of body weight
Protein/ 0.75 grams per pound of body weight
Fat/ as little as possible

Low & moderate days

Carbs/ 0.2-0.5 grams per pound of body weight
Protein/ 0.9-1.0 grams per pound of body weight
Fat/ 0.1-0.2 grams per pound of body weight

Remeber to not pay much attention to the scale weight, our weight fluctuates with your glycogen and hydration levels..

This diet is around 1300 cals. 149 protein, 80 carbs, 11 healthy fats.
My current stats are 5'4 143 lbs arox 20% bf.
I'd like to work with you on a carb cycle. If I generate one would u mind looking over it? And is this something I'd start now or wait until I'm closer to the show?

So.....just weighed myself. I've never weighed this much in my life......149 lbs. Talk about extreme depression. When will it stop?!

Hey,

Your calories are still low, & the fats are very low... Believe it or not we need to "eat" fat to lose fat,
fat helps slow down digestion & it slows doen the breakdown of carbs which is a good thing, 11 grams is really really low... I'll be happy to look at your carb cycle once u post it.

Your weight is going to fluctuate depending on your hydration level, time your weighing youself, time of the month (for ladies), etc

If you just started this diet & increased your carbs suddenly your body isn't used to that, so it will store the leftovers & hold on to water... This could be what caused the extra lbs.

I read you had your thyroid checked, but I would go back to the doctor & have your levels tested again (got to an Endo) as regular doctors go by different "normal" ranges than Endocronologists..

Hypothyroidism causes most of the symptoms your having, like the slowing down of yoru metabolism.. If this weigth gain continues I really suggest you go back to the doctor & do a complete check up, to rule out any medical causes for this, other factors can cause weigth gain too, like stress, depression, lack of sleep.

I know it's frustrating for u, but don't let it bring u down, get to the bottom of it & you'll hopefully find the cause & fix it.

Hang in there :)

i agree with mrs p.. this is a process you have to go through.. as your weight is going up the spill over will stop.. it will help reset your metabolism and get you back on track...

just keep working at it.. dont think just 15 weeks, think long term..

That's funny that your name is bombshell. Because im assuming you're on team bombshell? I know they kind of force you to do show after show.

My initial thought would be to lean toward carb cycling. I made the mistake of competing for 8 years straight, if not once then sometimes twice a year, trying to do Figure. My bodyweight NEVER exceeded 115lbs (competition @ 102lbs, 5'3"), until I took about a month to replenish my body with a GLAD style, Very high carb/moderate protein/low fat diet, then I slowly transitioned into carb cycling. I felt like I looked better when I did this as it allowed my anabolic hormones to raise, with the balance of "cutting days" to utilize catabolic hormones. Just a thought... I would suggest you research it first, and definitely make sure your calories are in check.
I had done two shows last year, a regional show which I won my division in the spring (I had veins in my abs then)....then I turned right around to do Nationals '12, and my body completely backfired on me. I thought I could use the same protocol set up, but when I found was that I was working harder and not losing bodyfat as I had expected. My metabolism and hormones were out of sorts, and I feel like I looked like shit. I wish I had given myself more time between shows to come back to neutral...so I feel ya sister. I highly encourage you to take the time to recover between shows and not make the same mistakes I have. There will ALWAYS be another competition. It's about choosing the right one that is optimal for you at this point in your life.
