Hypertension

I've already contacted Chip on getting started with HRT and am just waiting for when I'm financially ready to begin. However, I do not want to abuse Chip's personal contact information for general questions as I am not yet a client.

I struggle with Hypertension. Routinely I run between 130-145/80-90ish. Doctor prescribed me with a low dose med that I'd rather not take. In my case, this appears to be genetic.

Are there risks for me with my case of Hypertension and HRT?

I understand that there are many factors at play, but I guess I'm just curious if anyone has any opinion on the matter.

Thanks guys.

TRT "can" raise your blood presure, depends on your body, some guys improve... Mine was not effected it hovers around 65/115 to 70/140 (depending on stress level).. I don't eat fried food, eat out, avoid salt and red fatty meat and supplement QC010 and 5g fish oil a day. Prior to switching my diet I had levels as high as 90/150

yea. what kind of htn do you have? It puts you at increased risk of PVD, angina, a heart attack, and erectile dysfunction. It all depends on the kind of htn you have.

arginine..200mg a day potassium, 600mg+ a day magnesium, 5htp should help. High blood pressure= sympathetic nervous system overreactivity.

I am taking 50mg twice a day of Lopressor (a beta blocker) to controll my high blood pressure. This was prescribed by my cardiologist.

I am taking this along with my testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and everything seems to be ok.

I've been on HRT for over a year now and my BP remains constant - 125-130/65-70. Resting pulse is 48-52.

Both of those numbers has been constant for at least the last 15 years. So, I've not yet experienced any issues.

I would expect that if one's hemocrit rises significantly from the administration of test that could possibly contribute to a BP issues directly.

One final thing to consider is that to me, it seems a lot of guys who start HRT already have some health issues. Note that prior to engaging in a program and monitor accordingly for variations.

Thanks guys.

I'm basically considered pre-HTN / Stage 1 Hypertension.

I thought it might have been related to Low Test (I came out a Total T of 520), who knows.

I have the majority of symptoms associated with low T; anxiety being the main one, some sexual dysfunction, night sweats.

At any rate, I guess just monitoring it would be best huh?

well ive been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for nearly 5 years and never had high blood pressure issues....until i had problems with my shoulder surgery back in jan,now i havt to take 2 blood pressure meds

TRT can definitely raise your blood pressure. I've been on TRT for 3 months now and I had my blood pressure checked at the doctor on Tuesday. It was 180/110. It was never this high until I started TRT. Be careful and make sure to monitor your blood pressure. Good luck bro.

how old are you ?
and do you have any other chronic disease or something ?

two essential questions to judge if your blood pressure is acceptable or you need to control it with some mild antihypertensive

What was it when you started HRT?

What kind of shape were you in then/now?

Weight? Bodyfat? Diet? What other factor may contribute to our increase - known health issues prior to starting Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)? Other meds you are using?

No offense Bulleyes, but in the interest of full disclosure, haven't you also been "cycle" other AAS during your HRT over the course of hte past 5 years?

I am not trying to call you out, I just want people who read this to know that for those who have seen increases in BP, it may NOT be correlated to the simple fact that they are on HRT.

As I wrote in my previous post, a lot of guys come into HRT with poor health - over weight, diet issues, use of other meds, ect. Those factors are going to correlate to increases in BP when combined with HRT.

Just want folks to not jump on the "this causes that" bandwagon because there is absolutely no correlation established with HRT and increase in BP let alone a casual relationship.

Magnesium and whatnot will lower it if it's high. Testosterone can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system.

Oh yea brother i have cycled 2 times since ive been on TRT with Test only, and that i would imagine raised my blood pressure, you are correct......sorry for the post OP if i mislead my post

My BP was borderline high for quite a while 140ish/90ish but didn't change when I started trt. About 6 months ago took a turn for the worse and went to 150-160/90-100 and my doc put me on blood pressure meds which I did not like at all.

I found when I switched my diet to a lean mass diet that 3J laid out for me my BP dropped to 120-130/70-80. Not world beating, but not hypertensive either. You may want to try some dietary changes to see if it helps.

I also found out I have white coat syndrome BIG TIME. My doc told me to get a BP monitoring machine and take my pressure everyday (morning and night) for 3 weeks and then come back to see him with the machine to check its accuracy. I had been getting readings around 127/75 for the whole three weeks. The cute nurse comes in and takes my pressure and she gets 130/80, right in the ballpark, but since she is new she wants the doc to double check it before she records it. He comes in and takes it and gets 155/90, so we check it with the machine and it comes back with 155/90. So, in my case, my BP reading at the office is not very accurate. If my doc takes it enough times during my visit it will drop back down to norm, but if he takes it once at the beginning he's sure I'm going to drop dead any minute!

There are always risks when you introduce new medications, of any kind, into your system. Just make sure that you work with your PCP to manage your blood pressure. This is nothing to screw around with.

High BP is easy to control. Just get a product by Country Life called Magnesium Potassium Aspartate and take 2 pills twice a day. You could also take l-carnitine and coenzyme q-10, arginine, 100mg timed release 5-htp, and gaba. The mag/pot supplement is the main thing tho.
