My good friend went hypo two nights ago. He lost conciousness, started to convulse and froth at the mouth. I got a call from his parents, who were with him at the hospital. I was the only one that knew what kind of insulin he was taking, so the docs told them to phone me. He was taking 9IU of humalog after each workout. He had been doing it for the past 3 weeks with no problems and he had gained 10lbs. He consumed his usual amount of postworkout carbs and protein, yet this time for some reason his blood sugar didn't go back up. He ended up on the brink of brain damage with a blood glucose level of .6 He was in a coma for 10 minutes and he almost died. This shit is scary, so all of you that decide to use insulin, be aware, this shit ain't no joke.

It's a good idea to carry one of those emergency glucose redijects on you.

It's also smart to wear a diabetic pendant around your neck.

At least don't do it in secret, make sure the people around you know what's going on and what to do when shit goes wrong.

thats why all precautions should be taken and that still may not be enough--

when running slin you should let all the right people around you know that you are -- that way if something does go wrong! people will know whats going on and it will help aid you in getting treated in a timely fashion

Do you know if he felt the hypo coming/getting worse and futher tried to get his blood glucose up? Or did it just hit him? This sounds fuckin scary.

insulin, aside from diuretics, is probably one of the most dangerous drugs in bodybuilding.

IMO not all that valuable, though some people rave about it.

Insulin is very dangerous indeed. I know because my daughter is a type one diabetic. Any one who uses it for body building is playing with fire.

The shit hit him all of a sudden. He took his usual 80 grams dextrose and 40 grams protein right after, then he ate another solid meal 45 minutes later. He was watching tv and the next thing he remembers waking up in the hospital.

wow i never heard of it hitting so hard..everything i read said that you get warning signs b4 you get that bad (hypo)

this is why i would never use the shit. I have always felt when i have to monitor myself so closely so i don't die, i may have taken it a little too far. But this is my opinion, and i don't have the big at all costs mentallity.
