Squats

Don't worry bro I don't care how many posts anyone has got. I have seen some dumb shit being said on boards by guys with thousands of posts.
 
I though about doing that. Going to the gym with some holes in my shit and dirt on my pants maybe some blood to keep the posers at bay. Maybe a prepuked in bag. That would be a nice competition there. How about we all see who can be the most old school dirty ass mother fucker and take pictures of the people faces looking at us at our gyms. Add in a sweat band for good measure.
 
Just yesterday there was a douche at my gym with his shoulder holding his cell phone to his ear while doing leg extensions. I don't know about you but he looked stupid as hell, it looked like he was talking with a tic tac on his shoulder with some sort of mutated arthritis.
 
I have been squatting on and off since i was 14, basically always doing them as part of my split. I have since stopped and think i get better leg workouts without them. I am tall, 6'3, and am going to give this a go for a while. I stopped because they were beginning to really bother my hip flexors, and it seems as though my legs respond better to presses and hacks. Dorian also did them when he was young, but said he never felt like he got much out of them. Kevin is not a good example, becuase his legs gave ronnie the Olympian in 2002.

bump for the hacks. im tall as well. better safe than sorry. although squats kick ones ass.......

Squats are supposed to be the grand daddy of all leg exercises, and I am one that believes this. Well I have 5 bodybuilding video on my computer (Ronnie Coleman - The Unbelievable, Dorian Yates - blood and Guts, Kevin Levrone- Full Blown, Lee Priest - Another Blond Myth, and Jay Cutler - A Cut above) and I have only seen Ronnie do squats in their leg training. Are there certain benefits of the leg press that we are overlooking?

Did you download the Kevin, Lee and Jay video. I was able to get the Ronnie and Dorian .

Hack squats, leg extention and leg press. I can't do proper squat due to a back problem. But I still have big fuck of legs. Just need to bring out my inner sweep.

If your body can handle them (i.e. no back problems, knee, etc...) squats are the SHIT! Tednatas is right, they'll kick your ass.

That being said, I truely feel there is a place for the press in one's routine. As said before you can vary your foot positioning to change the angle your muscles are worked, and you can obviously alleviate some of the back,knee, etc.. problems. Another thing I like to do is explode up out of the press and at the very end extend the weight further using my calves only (pushing the sled so that toes are pointed out and are the only part of the foot touching the sled.) I feel this is a great way to add some extra "calf abuse" to your routine!
 
unless you have insane genetics you are not likely to ever have truly massive legs without heavy squats and lots of them . even those who squat rarely or never now who have tree trunk quads built them up in the beginning with squats and are either skipping the squats because of injuries or the have enough mass and are just trying to shape and maintain . look at a top powerlifter who squats conventional [ not superwide ] and notice the sheer mass and most of all THICKNESS
 
I think guys leave out or forget Front Squats. Man, those things FRY your quads without as much stress on your back. Not too many people try them because they're hard! Squats and Front Squats build some AWESOME wheels!!!!!!!!!
 
Did you download the Kevin, Lee and Jay video. I was able to get the Ronnie and Dorian .

I have all those videos on my computer as well. If you want to download alot of BBing vids get Shareaza, the downloads are usually really slow though.

These i do from time to time, they are rough, but since you need less weight, they don't bother me as much.
 
ball, you are going to have to jam the bar in that little crevice between your delts and your neck, make sure it is in their tight, or it is going to start rolling down your delts and your going to be using a whole lot of back to stabilize yourself. Also keep your arms parallel to the floor, if you drop them, again the bar is going to start rolling down the arms. You are probably going to have a tendency to drop your shoulders when you fatique, so make sure you concentrate on keeping them up.
