squats

How far down should I go? I go about 3/4 the way down, but for me to keep balance, i end up leaning foward more.....

I am wondering if theres any difference between front loaded squats and normal squats? Other than reducing the leaning foward factor, are there any other changes on how they work the legs??

Also how far down do you guys go? I find that if im trying to do really heavy weights, i cant keep stable on the explosion upwards from the ass to the ground stance

well with my woman i try to go down often as she enjoys that :: and as far as squatting i belive parralel is good i know a lot of people say below parallel but it seems for me when i try to go below i begin to feel some shit tearand i know im getting into the injury zone i think if you have always squatted very low its one thing but unless you put a lot into streching i wouldnt recommend going below parallel especially if you have trained for a few years unless you stretch like hell for a few weeks just my 2 cents
:D

i'd say ur quads/hams parallel to the floor. When you say u lean forward more, is that on an upright position or when ur squatting?

I tend to lean forward when im standing striaght up for some reason...

ALright....i just watched the squatting part of ronnie colemans training movie...he squats that his hams are parallel to the floor! That clears up alot for me...The thing is that he does squats with the bar on his front delts rather than old school style...

I find that when im in the squating position, i lean foward too much...i believe that im in a dangerous position....although I might try front loaded squats next monday to see if that eliminates it...

Aky: When i mean by leaning foward, i meant leaning foward too much in the squating position. When you say that you lean foward when standing, the first thing that comes to mind is that you either have the bar resting too far up your neck, or that you need to strengthen your back...

thanks for the input boys...now awaiting pullinbig's input or MULE!'s input...

When you squat focus your vision on something above eye level. This will keep your head up and your body in proper alignment. This will allow you to avoid that feeling of falling forward. Drive through the heals and keep your core tight. These are some tips that should help you out.

back off the weight and start squatting as deep as you can go. then build back up from there. the bottom few inches of the squat are the most important. you can t go by the quads and hams on squats because some guys got bigger legs. the hip joint to the knee joint is a point of reference. swoolow you pride and start over. the bottom of the squat seperate the men from the boys.

Parallel is OK, but I have to agree with pullinbig on this one - ATF is the only way to go. The knee is actually at its weakest anatomical position when at 90 degrees, so it is really safer to go below parallel than to try and stop that downward motion at a 90. If you do go only 90 degrees though, that needs to be judged by the joint angle of the knee in relationship to the joint angle of the hip, not quad or hamstring level.

Pullinbig, I already am going light with my ass to the ground....I am just wondering what is the benefits of going all the way down?

Check out this vid of Needsize. Those are good squats.

I'm doing squats today and I'm gonna try and find some hardass to critique my form.

incorporates more muscle groups and puts more stress on all mucsles involved do to the extended range of motion. how'd that sound??:D :D

Deep squats, heavy weight, good form---so difficult but damn they are the best. Do these religiously and you will be shopping for new clothes.

I already am buying new clothes.....I cant wear normal jeans...ihave to get them baggy version of 36inch waist jeans...

heres a diagram. everyone needs to squat lower than this as this is just barley breaking parrallel. if you guys can video you selves on your next squat and then you'll know how deep you are going.

here's a close up. the crease in the hip is parrallel to the top of the knee. this is aparrallel squat which will get you redlighted at most powerlifting meets unless the judging is lax that day. you got to an IPF meet with this depth and your day will end early.
