Squatting with less stress on knees?

Last time i squatted was 15 months ago, i had an injury that day, couldnt walk right for 3 months, weight was 315 ( which im familiar with and been playing it for couple of months ) but shit happens, anyway now i do leg presses at a max around 600# x 8 reps . still dont want to squat again like i did before, its not worth the risk, i used to do a "ass to grass" type squatting with a shoulder wide stand, never tried any other ways of squats, so any feedback about squat types that put less stress on the knee would be appreciated.

thanks.

ya, it is usually good, maybe its because i squatted that weight alot of times before what made me loose my form the injury night. anyway i still feel that my right knee hasnt fully recovered yet, thats why i want to take extra care of it if i start squatting again.

If your knees are strong enough for 600 lb leg press you could probably handle some squatting. I would just be EXTREMELY cautious and start with 20 reppers even if it's only one plate.

Zerch sqauts aren't bad on the knees and blast the hell out of your quads. Box Squats would be another suggestion.............both are excellent in keeping you in good form. Without seeing your form or you ginving a detailed explaination as to your form it's hard to make suggestions as to what you might be able to try.

I had a injury that kept me from squatting for quite awhile and I used leg presses and good mornings to maintain my strength. When I started squatting again all I needed to do was go light and get my form back before uping the poundages.

Ill take a clip next time i go to the gym, obviously i wont do any heavy weights, most likely doing an empty bar squat or a light weight.. but even if i do a 100% correct form now, i will most likely be experiencing some pain too as i feel that things havent fully recovered yet when it comes to locking my knee .

For a start ill be doing half squats with a wide stand on the smith machine, what do u think ?

need to ask some questions.. ive seen people put a 10# plates on the ground and almost half the foot steps on them, hope thats a good description, does that have to do anything with the knees ? or how about the one where u place the bar on the frontal delts ? feels like it gives better form, doesnt it ?

so dont lock your knee.

half squats? go all the way down.

front squats or back squats will do fine. no plates under your heels.
