This Has Got To Be A Scam!! Anyone Else Get These E-mails??

What I find the most amusing is how easy it is for someone to go to any board and get members email addresses through their profiles but that doesnt enter into the equation of our ignorant member "prot".

We've had people come on here and PM member after member trying to solicite business, thats what happens when you are one of the biggest bodybuilding boards on the net. If some scamming asshole came to our board and got as many email addresses as he could from peoples profiles and emailed them, what the fuck can we do about it? You do know that you can hide your email address in your 'User CP' right? Next time dont be such an ass clown with your unwarranted accusations.

I honestly believe that Steroidology had no part in this Bullshit! I get hundreds of spam messages that have nothing to do with gear. Companies sell your email address to other companies to market their bullshit. The worst thing that you can do is respond to spam because they now know that it's a valid email address. Just delete the bullshit and get on with your life.

I just want to thank all of the people on this board for all the valuable information that I have received....Keep up the great work.

they are scammers

Same one I got through my Hotmail account a couple days ago.

Ok, someone implied that a moderator or administrator would somehow be responsible. I do not have access to any db connection strings where I can query and dump a list of member email addresses, and I certainly am not going to point and click through the profiles of 20,000+ members to obtain email addresses to spam.

That is NOT how spam works. Spam bots can be programmed to work many ways, they can sift email addresses from a website they encounter (this is where email address encoding comes in, to confuse bots, or Javascript can be used but causes functionality issues in a crossplatform world, i.e. the internet), or they can simply go through what we call a DICTIONARY file(s) which is exactly how a password cracker works as well (brute force method).

The list will contain standard words, you can of course add or subtract, and often dictionary files are available in other languages to increase chances of cracking your target. Anyhow, so if a dictionary entry like DOG is being used to start spamming people, you can set your spamming program to add numbers or foreign characters or both, and you can tell it how many characters deep to do this. So dog1@aol.com , dog2@aol.com and so on would receive email, many of these will bounce but invariably some go through.

Why do you think so many forums, and whois lookups on the net, and etc have authentication methods to prevent mass sign ups now? You will undoubtedly have seen at some point a graphical represenation of numbers and leters you have to enter in order to complete a registration process, many forums now have this, to prevent BOTS from mass signup spam hits. So if someone here really believes that a human is pointing and clicking through 20,000+ profiles to spam people and maybe sucker even 50 people, you are seriously short of some BASIC tech knowlege.

I get spam for HGH and steroids to email addresses not listed on any message board AT ALL right along with penise enlargement and viagra and cialis and all the other crap, mortgage quotes and so on.

I see these SAME EMAILS AT MY WORKPLACE, am I going to suspect that everyone at my work is juicing or using HGH to "feel and look younger" - ? Of course not, they dont have to be a member of any board or organization to receive spam. Many people have signed up for brand new accounts on AOL, Yahoo or other services and have received spam within minutes, much less before using that address on any website.

I've worked in tech since the 90s and have worked with computers since I was a kid, I still run email servers and I deal with spam every day as a constant nuisance, and spam bots have been around for at LEAST 10 years now, to even imply anyone is doing this by hand or that moderators have some db connection string to run SQL queries at home only shows that you dont know what you are talking about.

Sorry kids, but this is random spam and it has nothing to do with Steroidology, I'd just delete the crap but I'm sure it was appreciated that it was brought up because there is no affiliation or backing from this site and probably not any other either.

This person(s) is probably looking to sucker a few people because they know this would blow up rapidly in their face, if it didn't work thats great for us as "consumers," if it did work they could have cleared 10 grand or who knows how much in a matter of half a day or even less - again whooooooooo knows.

Stay smart its YOUR MONEY, dont try and pass the buck that this is some freakish underground attempt from a site like this, who has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon.

My company got almost NO spam until about 2 years ago, and when it hit us it hit us EN MASSE, its not a human doing the work its spambots. Anyone ever gotten spam with a jumbled message, or even a blank message? A spambot that obviously crapped out or was setup incorrectly, this is not people pointing and clicking.

I hid my email address under user CP as I always do..thats why I suspected a mod or admin as this has never happened on another board. I said that perhaps the site was hacked but its definitely coming from this board..I get lots of spam too..but not of this nature..general types of HGH ads and viagra and cialis end up in junk mail daily but I have never received this type of email...Its unfortunate that it happened at all but I believe "board" security was compromised in some way...Why don't you just say you are sorry it happened and you'll try and find out why? Why blame me and call me names? I did not point to anyone because I don't know what happened . Attacking my views does not negate my point of view. I still don't see how, having hidden my email under user CP, this could happen on this site?

Perhaps clarification of "its definitely coming from this board" would be good, do you think this site is actually sending it? Or are you saying you ONLY use that email address here and NOWHERE ELSE? I would not expect someone to have a single email address for every board they are on.

Regardless of any of that, it is certainly not intentional and like BiggieSwolls mentioned the administration has been very wary of who can sponsor, much less claim affiliation or even BACK a steroid supplier, so there is no way that this is something backed by this site.

prot said:

I see what you are trying to say, but there is no reason for anyone here to be sorry, there is zero proof or even a THEORY as to how it came from this board so there is no reason to be sorry at all.

Not being a dick, but trying making a point.

You are pointing the finger with NO proof or even a solid suggestion as to how, so I see no reason for anyone here to be sorry except perhaps you for crying foul play so damn much.

No, of course you didnt, you didnt say that it was a "cover up of a scam by someone in power here"? Right.

And you dont have a point of view because your supposed point of view is an accusation and if you are going to point fingers at us, then at least have some type of evidence. Some kid with 18 posts is going to come on our board of 1.5 years with 26,000+ members and try and put our integrity on the line because you got some spam in your email inbox? Right, I wonder if your posts have a motive.

Im guessing that it is a mod or admin from another board trying to attack this one. A smart admin or mod that knows computers very well.

I bet im right.

Why not attack the best board on the net right?

Isn't it also quite interesting that everyone else on every other board has seen it?

It appears it is already known who this is, a person who runs several other scammer sites.

Thank you, drive through please.
