To squat or not

I am 6'3 and just scrapped squats for a while because my hips have been bothering me. My legs are by far my worst bodypart, and i normally would squat up to 465x5 for my last set to parallel. Recently i have been getting my best leg growth ever, and i am natural at the moment, from horizontal leg presses, and front squats. I am wonderintg if any of the tall guys here have had this problem, and if squats weren't all they were cracked up to be for you as well. I always squatted, well, because everyone always said you had to. Just wanted to see what everyone has to say.

bro if you cant do them you cant do them , all we can do is workaround our injuries the best we can and not give up . do you squat wide or narrow stance and have you tried the other ?

It isn't so much that i can't , but i have stopped for a while letting my hips feel better, and i have found other things promote growth much better. I guess technically i still do some squats since i do fronts. And as far as narrow squats, my legs are too long, i will fall flat on my ass, lol.

flat huh mental picture =:jump: , everyone is different and has different hurdles , if we werent we would all me ed coan or ronnie coleman . my traps dont grow even with heavy deads and shrugs and my bicep peaks damn near at my forearm :( , but on the other hand i never have trained calves and they are still my best bodypart and my front delts grow easily without any extra work , just bench . in my opinion if front squats work for you stick with them . have you tried hack squats?

I have done hacks, platforms are usually to short and my knees fly way over my ankles, so i do ballerina style. I do them on and off, and i have tried free weight hacks but also because i am tall they are very tough to get any groove, because it is hard to clear my ass.

I agree with you jcp2....I'm also 6'3 and have a hell of a time with legs. Squats with free bars are just about impossible to do without leaning to far forward and throwing my back out. Front Squats on the other hand have definately helped but damn it starts to hurt like hell putting all that damn weight on my collar bone. Hack Squats have also been a godsend.....Thats my main exercise.

im 6;2 and i do squats once every two weeks due to my heel injuries. i love tha hack squat as well. and ive never tried the horizonntal press. maybe i do the m regularly and im a dumb ass and dont know what ur talking about when u say horizontal.

it is the only way i can differentiate it, you are not pushing up, you are stittin like in a chair and pushing straight out, takes a lot of the stress of my ass.

Yeah, i do deads, on back day, i go fairly heavy. I have been doing 500 for around 3-5 reps on my last set. I am going to start icreasing weight soon. I love deads. :)
