Trap's won't grow.

I do my heavy shrugs, I do my upright rows, but my stupid traps are seriously lagging behind.

Generally, on a shoulder day I'll either do 4 x 12 upright rows or 4 x 15 shrugs.

So, I guess I'm asking should I add in more sets for traps? maybe work them on another day as well? Or do I just need to up my poundage?
 
i find going to the smith machine ,and really getting my form down to the t and just taking my time one them getting a good stretch going down and trying to touch my delts to my ears
 
IMO traps are like calves and you either got em or you don't. Just a genetic disposition to look like a Brahma bull or not. lol Doesn't mean you shouldn't work em though
 
Yeah, I do 5 (7 if I'm feeling froggy) sets of deadlifts on back day.


sounds like you're overtraining on the shrugs and upright rows. I'd try dropping them down.

Heavy ass deads, just a few sets should do the trick. Remember, your trapezius reaches almost the center of your back. Shrugs, in my opinion, are worthless for the whole trap. Honestly, I stopped doing them along time ago.

upright rows are the only thing that work me like no other

Bro, every time I read your screen name I get the urge to say "Ehhhhhh Tonyyyy!" like they do on gangster movies. I even did it once and my wife looked at me like I was crazy. :rolleyes2
 
damn i dont have that problem, mine get big very quick, i do alot of heavy ass deads though didnt even realize they were hitting my traps til this thread.

and i dont do shruggs either. i stopped cause i honestly dont want them getting too big and the woman doesnt like it.

I need to try deads then.... I love training traps! Id have them big as center-blocks if possible.. Starting to get back in the groove in the gym since my last surgery. If i was gonna use a site enhancement compound i would be injecting in my traps/still not ready for that though. Big traps/ear delts finish off a serious build of the upper body. How manys sets/reps u guys pullin?

I agree about the overtraining on the shrugs, I dissagree about shrugs being worthless for traps.

Mix it up weekly, first week of the month to light weight lots of reps, next week do heavy weight lower reps and alternate... Also throw some barbell shrugs in there.. When im done with my first set of shrugs my traps look fucking insane!! just my $0.02
 
ahhhhh....traps. my natural muscle. everyone has one standout muscle. this happens to be mine. dont have to do anything and they look good.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Mine's my chest. I wish it was traps. Nobody likes a big chest :\

My arms are 16", but I have D cups. It's not fair.
