Hello all,
I am 20 and I got ulcerative colitis since i was 16. I am taking right now azathioprine imuran and i am in a remission. I have been in the game and off due to my sickness. If i were to use anabolic steriods would it make me have flare ups? anyone has ulcerative colitis and is taking anabolic steriods please do me a favor and share your experience.
Thanks

The only thing I can share with you is that at 20 you are too young. AAS can mess up your endocrine system. Sorry I don't have an answer to the question u asked.

I know a lawyer who had it and lost 30 pounds..shame he did not die.

THIS is definately a medical question..aas do nothing to improve one s ability to stave off deseases, infections or boost the immune..HIV notwithstanding...muscle wasting and all that..

Number one is listen to user. That is most important.

As far as anabolics and UC I am not aware of any contraindications there. I would stay away from GH type stuff. I just can't think of any reason aas would be contraindicated. Run it by your GI doctor though, they will probably say bad idea but ask why. figure out how to word it well.

Way to young bro!!

Def listen to nate about the gh when you do grow up...

Just from personal experience I get acid reflux flare ups when I run gear and normally I never get that....so it could possibly effect your UC but I wouldnt know...just a thought

What is the medications you taking do? immune booster of some sort?

I think I may have read somewhere, but don;'t quote me to much test may affect protists.

Someone mentioned staying away from GH, but did not say why?

Unfortunately if you had some solid proof or documentation to back that statement up or you were Gastroenterologist I would take that statement into consideration. For all we know GH could help it.

So the best advice we can give him as someone mentioned above was to speak to his doctor, then to sit here and speculate.

Stay away from gh because growth hormone is the cell multiplier....when guys take gh it is not only multiplying their muscle cells....its multiplying all their cells...so if you have anything at all negative like going on inside your body...well get ready for an explosion of badness....

for instance....dude has UC....he takes gh....now he has Super UC

same goes for cancer....if you dont know you have it....you take gh and you will know you have it

Are you kidding me??? Bro do you know what hgh is???

Are you seriously saying that hgh is not a cell multiplier??? DO you seriously believe that gh only targets the muscle cells???

bro do one dam google search and you will get all the info you want...

for me...im going with what is real....take a physiology class...

Go back and read what I wrote! I don't give two shits if you took a History class, your not a Gastroenterologist!!! So until there is proof on your part that GH for sure would not help his issue - then enough said ;)

Here is quick search on my part but in no way saying it true unless he talks to his doctor as to whether it may help or not.

Hormonal Treatment Aids Crohn's Patients

Human growth hormone combined with a high-protein diet significantly eased the symptoms of Crohn's disease in three-quarters of patients with moderate to severe cases, a study has found.

Crohn's affects the digestive tract, causing persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, bleeding and a breakdown of the intestinal wall. About half of Crohn's patients require surgery to remove intestinal obstructions or repair holes in the bowel. No cure is known, although drugs can ease symptoms.

The study in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine [AE Slomin, MD. A Preliminary Study of Growth Hormone Therapy for Crohn's Disease; NEJM 2000;342(22):1633-7] found that 11 of 19 adults treated with growth hormone while on a high-protein diet went into remission. Three others improved significantly. Eighteen patients taking a dummy drug while on a high-protein diet saw no significant improvement.

The study was supported by grants from Eli Lilly and Company and the Genetech Foundation for Growth and Development, a nonprofit organization that receives financing from Genetech Inc. Both pharmaceutical companies make growth hormone.

As many as one million Americans suffer from Crohn's disease, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America said. Moderate to severe Crohn's disease is diagnosed in up to 120,000 people each year.

Several anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing drugs can send the disease into remission but do not prevent long-term relapse. Other drugs prevent relapse in some patients but do not make the disease go into remission.

The leader of the new study, Dr. Alfred Slonim of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y., said growth hormone caused few harmful side effects in children and adolescents who had taken it for years.

If further studies find the growth hormone is effective for long-term treatment of Crohn's, it may prove safer than current remedies, Dr. Slonim said.

The cause of Crohn's is unknown, but one theory is that infections or hereditary factors weaken the intestinal wall, making it more susceptible to inflammation and tissue breakdown when it comes in contact with disease-causing organism. An exaggerated immune response may also play a role."

Usually covered by insurance if they speak with the prescribing doctor. Not sure if I can post the Docs name. Google text from article to find.

Peace Out!

ya...i read the same shit....now tell me why his docs dont have him on it instead of the 2 or 3 meds he is taking

PEACE OUT

Probably for the mere fact there is not enough research on it and it's touchy subject. I don't know to many doctors who like to get involved with prescribing GH period - due to the laws behind. Does not mean that GH will not help. Let him decide for himself, then having to take a blatant statement like yours that it would make things worse. When we both know you don't know for sure that it won't help him.

I glad you can count ;)

But in the end, him 20 is to young for gear regardless.

ulcerative colitis and crohn's are 2 different things, similar symptoms but they are different.

GH is not a cure all. Immuno suppressive drugs are used to treat UC, have been for years.

At face value I would not be comfortable taking GH with either CD or UC, but I am not a GI. Also, just because something is published in NEJM does not make it good science. Take the case of vaccines and autism, one article published 15 years ago, since retracted by the author was used to support this link. Now we have an epidemic of whooping caugh in california secondary to people not getting the vaccine.

OP talk to your GI.

First of all, you are too young for steroid.

I am 30 years old and I got Ulcerative Colitis since I was 24. I am on Asacol right now. Also, I have been in the game ON and OFF due to Ulcerative Colitis. It is very difficult to manage your weight when you get the flare ups. Many times I hit 180 pounds, but I get sick and lose up to 40 pounds. It is so frustrated.

People who have Ulcerative Colitis react differently when they use steroids. They may do no shit to you, but there is a chance that they destroy your colon, and require a surgery to remove it.

I will give you a trick for the future. Before starting any cycle you need to start taking some stuff along with your medications that may help to control the illness and finish the cycle without any flare ups.

1- Probiotic Formula 2 to 3 times a day (First thing in the morning and at night before the last meal).

2 - Whole Leaf Organic Aloe Vera Juice (Lily Of The Desert) ¼ cup 2 to 3 times a day (First thing in the morning and at night before the last meal). Stop if you get nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or Rectal bleeding.

3- Garlic Extract (kyolic) 600mg to 1200mg 2 to 3 times a day (First thing in the morning and at night before the last meal).

4- Liquid Chlorophyll 1 tbsp 2 to 3 times a day. (First thing in the morning and at night before the last meal).

5- Alfalfa 1000mg to 2000mg 3 times a day.

6- EFA (Omega 3-6-9) 2 to 3 times a day.

7- Liv52 ds 2 times a day.

8- Multivitamin + Multiminerals.

9- L-Glutamine.

*** Drink only Ionized Alkaline Water and stay away from sugar.

Again you are too young for using steroids. Ulcerative Colitis + Steroids may hurt your colon and joints so badly.

Do you think all those remedies would hold true for all the types of gastro disorders, like Protitis?

They might be. As I said before people react differently, all you got is to try and see what's the best for you. (My naturopathic doctor from Toronto told me that the cause of most Gastro-Intestinal disorders is Candida and the acidic water we drink)

***Sometimes you are allergic to some kind of food and that what causes the flare ups.

Actually that good advice right there, suggesting he goes see a Naturopathic doctor, possibly they can she some light on it as well. or a Homeopathic doctor as well.

Have you ever tried Ultimate Phenolics? Dr Oz speaks of it as well.

Physica Energetics - - Phenolics
