We often talk about ufc fighters crappy pay...

The problem is not necessarily with the pay for the top fighters, who are now making 250k to a million a fight plus sponsorship money. The middle of the road fighters as well as the undercard guys get little to nothing by way of sponsors.

true, but then it's just like other sports, i mean, everyone would like to train to be a basketball player or football player but there's no money in it unless you're in the top 1%.

That's not really a fair analogy. The UFC is the mma equivalent to the NBA. Your average bench player in the NBA still makes a million dollars a year, your average undercard figher is lucky to see 50k from fight purses.

yes but lets think of this as a ratio....how many people play basketball at age 16 in the north america? maybe 20 million? and how many people become pro, making millions? maybe a 1000? so 0.005% become rich doing it.
now how many people are doing true MMA(not including specific disciplines) at 16? ....maybe 5000-10000....and how many people are making millions? maybe 10-20 people? that's .1% at worst. so you might actually have a better chance at becoming a million air through MMA then the NBA

not to mention a bench player is apart of a 100 game season....so / the million by 100

The fact that MMA is a newer sport, and has less participants, is a completely separate issue.

not at all...when the sport grows and supply and demand is effected the fighters will get paid more.

If you're going to say the undercards deserve a bigger porion of the pie, then so do the main cards, they bring in the money....i buy a ticket for the big fights.

The "growing" of a sport doesn't have to do with how many people participate in it, it has to do with how many people watch. Now that the UFC is making millions off of every card the sport has become "big". So the supply and demand thing isn't relevant. I wouldn't be opposed to the main card fighters making more money, but I don't think they necessarily need it. The issue at hand is that no one besides the marquee fighters can afford to training and medical expenses in order to fight full time, which they need to do in order to succeed.

I agree, that's kinda what I mean by supply and demand....once the sport grows more, there will be more and more "minor leagues", sponsorships, jobs training fighters and so on...eventually it will change. If the fighters want more money, they need to organize into a union of some sort...I know that sounds like some hippie commie bullshit.

MMA would have been big years ago. Dana had to fight tooth and nail to get it where its at. Plus they made him change ton and tons of the rules. And they are still trying to make him change the rules!!!!!!!

Wonder what the prize money will be in the Lesnar vs. Mir rematch?st Mir should make as much as Brock just for having the balls to get in the octagon with that beast. I know Mir one once with his lucky leg lock but the beating he took up until that point. That fight was comical. Lesnar threw him around and punched him down like a little girl.

LMAO! I know man. They have to pay Mir more. Like you said he is a beast and the other fighters wont admit it but they are scares of Lesnar!!!!:worried:

A union has worked for the athletes in most other big time pro sports. You are right it will happen and probably sooner rather than later.

i have seen undercard fighters avg.. from 5000 to 50000 for a win.. but usually 5-10 grand but no lower then 3 grand with a loss..
