in my worthless ass opinion one of the main problems with useing the belt is that newbies are cinching the thing down till they are nearly cut in half and relying on the belt to stabalize their core instead of leaving the belt a little looser and pushing against the belt with their abs/core to build up pressure and stabalize them .pullinbig said:i wear a belt on heavy work setsand maybe the last warm up or two on squats. used to i wouldnt put on my belt til i got to 585 on squats. but abut a year ago i started putting it on at 495.
in do not wear a belt on deads cept at meets or in the last few training sessions before a meet. but this could change if it is needed.
a little common sense goes a long way here guys. if you know your body it will tell you if you need a belt or not. same with wraps and a trainer.
some guys say never use a belt/wraps. thats stupid and too macho for me. some guys got their belt on when they get out of the truck.
there is no set in stone procedure for belt usage. but in general when i train new guys to the gym or a pling routine i say no belt til they put up some good numbers. now if they got an injury that calls for a belt then by all means. thats common sense.
the first thing i focus on with new guys/gals is core strength. squatting without a belt is a good way to develop core strength along with the other core movements.
this topic is debateable and an individual thing. but thats my 2ml.
