A New Gym,, What Do You Look For In A Gym???

DITTO on the boxing ring, I need a place for my next golden gloves tourny and It'd be fuckin awesome if your gym sponsered me in addition to Lifetime Fitness =\

Some boxing things you'd definately need include:

Double end bag
Punching bag
speed bag
+ the boxing ring =)

make sure the gym reaches into the US

What you could do is:

have a lounge in the mens and womens locker room with a phone and nice size screen tv and couches with carpet and tables to chill u know

My needs are simple. Big iron like mentioned by others, lots of room. Don't waste too much money on fluff, but get creative to make it look nice. The only fluffy things I like are a whirlpool and steam room. Helps to unwind and come down after a crazy workout. A staff that has a clue would be really novel. The staff at my current gym looks like the cast from survivor!

TTORO, glad to see you did read this and are still on here. Fuck, 7 days left eh? You must be pretty happy at the same time as the nervous though. If you don't mind me asking, where is your gym located at and what's the name of it? Good luck, keep me updated on how it's going.

And i'm really glad to see this post is still going and it's a serious one. I'm sure myself, TTORO and anyone else interested in opening a gym is getting great idea's from all of the S'Ology members that contributed to this thread. And i appreciate it very much i must say.

It'll be ideal to have my gym open 24/7/365, but to start out, it's just not a possibility on a low budget. Mine will be open 120 hours a week to start, then eventually i will go 24/7, but i'll also have to limit how many employee's i have to start, but ALL of them will know what their talking about, otherwise i won't hire them. I've already been meeting a few of the "right people" that would be good for certain jobs at my gym, but some of those people are the people i won't need until the gym gets BIG and i'm making good money and expansion is on it's way. But the biggest thing starting out is, figuring out what things you will want in the beginning and what things will be more of a want then a need and can wait until more money is coming in.

So keep in mind when your replying to this, that although you may have a "dream gym",,, i'll take those idea's, as far out as they be i'll read them, but i'd rather take the serious ones if i could. But think of when your replying to this of a gym that's just starting out and needs a good grounding before it gets into "dream gym" material.

Thanks again and keep posting :)

Bigbuff - do you know what it costs to put all of this state of the art equipment in a gym? You are better off buying a gym that already exists. We're talkin millions of dollars even for a small ass gym.

Just read your last post... start small but dont forget the basics. the only way to expand is to have people happy. If the local YMCA or wreck center has better equipment than you and lower fees, you aren't going to get too many people.

I've already gotten estimate quotes,,, it won't cost Millions of dollars at all. And the equipment isn't really that "state of the art", because it's the same shit that's been in gym's for years. I can pick and choose what things i'll have in the gym.

To franchise a Gold's Gym, it costs anywhere from $750,000.00 to 1.5 million dollars... and that's a pretty big name gym. So if you think of it that way, it's not gonna cost as much as that for someone to open up a no-name (for now) gym. Using the name alone probably costs like $500,000.00.

And as for the YMCA thing,, trust me, where I live, the only competition is a "pretty" gym, but it's expensive, very expensive, i could easily beat it by having people pay $10 less a month then there. Only problem is, their a huge corperation now, with like 12 locations around the area, but I've been thinking of an area around here that's a bit away from them, and it's the next place to boom up around here. I've got a lot more planned out them most people would think.

Thanks for the advice though.
Cheers.

Hey TTORO, if you see this, let me know how your gym is going, i'm really curious to hear how things are doing for you and your new gym.
