Crashing on TRT?

Hi all,

I'm not really sure how to go about this but really need advice. My boyfriend has very low test levels, and was prescribed testogel, which he started taking. I definately noticed an improvement in his mood, energy, he was alot happier in general, however, his doctor refuses to prescribe him any more as he is uncomfortable with prescribing that kind of medication.

His urologist has now referred him to an endocromologist (apologies if I haven't spelt that right) which is taking some time. In the meantime he has become quite withdrawn, irritable and sometimes aggressive. His mood is very low, and his anxiety levels are higher.

There has been alot of stressful events for us to deal with, which would make anyone irritable and anxious, but I cant help that think alot of it is to do with the fact he is longer taking anything.

Has anyone else experienced this? I love him so much and really want to help him. Any advice or support here would be much appreciated. Many Thanks!

He just needs to find a doctor that will treat him and help him get his testosterone levels back to normal. That will help him feel like his old self again. Hang in there and keep supporting him. There is help out there for him. For some reason, some doctors are still in the dark ages.

And have him get an injectible form of testosterone. He will like that much more. Encourage him to start reading this forum so he can learn about his medical issue.

Welcome to the forums, first step in a world of knowledge

If possible. Would you please post specifics of how they came to the conclusion of his low test - physical symptoms etc. Also if you have bloodwork, that would be great in helping.

If you have a read on these forums there is plenty of information regarding all forms of testosterone administration - pellets, injectables, and cream. And also other peoples experiences.

To ensure that you have the best help it is paramount you find a doctor who knows what they are dealing with. There is a large number of urologists, endocrinologists and even supposed testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drs who cant even understand basics of what they are dealing with. If you are in the US i would suggest giving our board sponsors, IMT, a call.

To my experience, i had the exact same issue. Moodiness, short tempered, fatigued, wasnt depressed ur didnt have that zest for life. I was prescribed injectables every 3 weeks at first and it was good for first 3-5 days then a hormonal rollercoaster. It was terrible. I then went on cream and it felt like it did something at first (could of been placebo also) then was just as bad before it. That went for weeks. I also had drs say that i was perfectly normal. Btw i am 25 and was at the bottom of the scale while having good diet and exercise.
My situation improved when i found the right doctor. I got onto injectables and am now a different person.

There are a number of main tests that should be performed first to get a clear understanding of what it is that has gone wrong.
Alongside Standard full blood tests, Initial blood tests should have:
Testosterone total
Testosterone free
Oestradiol
Prolactin
SHBG
FSH
LH
Dht
Dhea - sometimes
PSA
Thyroid ahould also be checked
TSH
Free t4
Free t3
Rt3
Thyroid antibodies
These tests will give a much more accurate indication of what type of hypogonadism he has, or whether the issue lies somewhere else.

My partner did exactly what you did, tried looking for answers and help when i had problems.

Hope this information helps. Its a lot to take it, but this is something that is done for life.

Im on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and I found that the local small younger Doc's prescribe it a lot easier. Mine had no problem he is in his 40's I get 100mg weekly. I get a 10mil bottle at a time. I get it from Walmart for $10.00 with my insurance.
Now I cycle so when im on cycle I use another brand and when I go off cycle I go right back to my normal testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) with a Aromatase inhibitor (AI) to keep the estrogen down for @ 3 weeks. So I still run a small pct even though I dont think its necessary for everyone.

Just out of curiosity, why would his doctor prescribe him testogel and then stop giving it to him? If he was uncomfortable doing it in the first place, why would he even start him on it? This is a classic example that the majority of the medical community is in the dark when it comes to TRT. Starting someone on testosterone and then suddenly pulling them off is not only dumb, but down right dangerous. The worst part is, he's a urologist- they of all people should understand testosterone.
