So I spoke to 7 bodybuilders, and I ask them how much cardio is on the weekly schedule for them. And they told me that they rarely run to not running at all, now how in the hell are these guys seeing their abs if their not running, how many calories can you possibly burn from vigorously lifting weights a day.I found out that abs are pretty visible in my family there just really flat, so I'm cool on the genetics part.BTW those guys never took steroids.

I dont understand how their getting such massive abs without cardio, like these guys are super lean with little to no cardio. How is this possible ? And Rodney Coleman's big ass barely runs.

Healthy cardiovascular system transports neutrients threwout the body more effectivly then somone who dont do cardio.

These bodybuilders that your talking about how much do they weigh?
are they ectomorphs? Ecto is probably the only ones that don't have to do cardio and still is a must at some point,.
Someone is not telling you the truth, Cardio is the way to looking lean plus a clean diet. it is possible they might be on gh,.

definitely a great point.

Also, keep in mind that cardio is much much different for us bigger guys. At 350lbs, I personally WON'T run at all until the season starts. Human knee's weren't built to run/climb stairs at those weights. Pro bodybuilders usually weigh 300+ in the off season so I'm sure it's a very similar thing for them. Since their joints are so important to them, many would rather diet the fat off than risk injuries from cardio.

I stick to swimming in the off season to let me knee's recover from the thrashing running inflicts on them while maintaining cardiovascular health.

350?! Damn son... Swimming is no joke!... Not doing any cardio is ignorant. I love me some cardio

Also, when talking "professional" level. Those guys are taking all kinds of shit to cut weight. Crazy

3 of them I'm cool with and they weigh a little above 190.We work out together at night because they work all mourning. So there wouldn't be any cardio that I wouldn't be able to witness.

good point there Crane this is also true,

Which also brings me to another question whats the point of doing ab exercises at all.You cant burn fat from a specific area, you have to allow your body to select what parts it wants to burn, so how is this ab crap fit in, I mean yea it tightens them but why should that matter if there not getting bigger ?

definately genetics and what they are eating. I've always had a very low bf (around 10) when i was younger. i've had abs since 7th grade. but i was scrawny as hell. as i started lifting and getting bigger, my muscles were growing and i could still see my abs just as well. just a naturally cut person. but for the most part i've always eaten decent too.

and i never ever do cardio (until just recently). i went over a yr without stepping on a treadmill or anything. im already cut, so i figure why would i? i just want to get bigger. but i started realizing im getting bigger, and its tougher on my heart, and my heart isn't as strong as it should be. half the time i feel like im gonna have a heart attack having sex. so i decided to start doing cardio 3 times a week for my heart, and i have a show coming up.

if ur workout is intense, u burn hella calories just lifting weights. just think how much energy it takes to move 300lbs ten times or something. and short rest periods. im always dripping sweat in my workouts and my heart racing.

easy:
more muscle mass, more calories burned just "being" eg.. work, sitting, walking ect.
the more muscle mass you have the easyer it is to get lean. (in most cases)

Thanks everyone I appreciate the answers, but for my last question in this thread, is it really a point to doing ab workouts if I can just lose the weight and see my abs ? like whats the point of doing crunches.Crunches takes more time to burn calories and you dont see your abs just because your doing crunches, whats the meaning of it ? Why should people do ab workouts ? just to make their abs hard ? I dont think they get bigger from it, do they get bigger from it ?

I can't really see my abs yet, but I do ab workouts and cardio everyday. I figure once I get my bf down, my abs will be more defined than if I didn't do it at all. Abs are fast twitch muscles so you can work them more frequently.

It is all about calories in vs calories out. You can get lean without cardio and without drugs. Cardio will just make it happen faster.

You have to be judicious with how much cardiovascular you do if the goal is building lots of muscle. It is difficult to keep from getting catabolic if you lift weights for 60 minutes then do 60 minutes of cardio.

Everyone has their point of view on this,
I think if you are looking to look lean, you need to incorporate Cardio into your routine. I weigh 207 lbs & do Cardio 3-4 times a week. Yes, you can diet & loose weight/fat, but you will increase this & benefit more by doing Cardio.

Besides, there are many other benefits to doing Cardio: Improved Heart Health, Increased Metabolism Along with speeding up your heart rate, cardiovascular exercise also increases your metabolism, Improved Hormonal Profile, realeasing afeel good hormone that helps you battle depression.

All I can tell you is what works for me, and what I have know to work for many others.

This might be a stupid question but is it even possible to be catabolic while on the juice? I heard that about too much cardio can make you catabolic but if you keep your HR around 150 you're okay. I did a little experiment, I don't know how accurate it is but I did 20 min on the stationary at a HR of 165-175 and it said I burned about 200 cal. The next day I did 20 min at HR 150-155 and burned the same 200 cal. Seems like that extra effort isn't worth it if you are trying to burn fat your body can only burn it so fast.
