I think the number of your rep points equals how much u give someone else. Dawg give 266 points when he reps. When I rep it gives someone 2 points. Mine should be more since I'm cool like the other side of the pillow!!

I dont know about here,but when i used to post on BB.com for every 100 rep points you had,when you repped someone,it gave them 1 rep point.....if you had 200 rep points,if you rep someone its 2 points
and if you had like 10,000 rep points,and repped someone,it would give them 100 points and so on lol

My calc might be off, but it's close. His reps are worth "200+ rep 'power'" but the amount of actual rep points that will show up on the guy he reps are far fewer.
^For example. The only reason my rep reads 1 is because dadawg repped me ages ago. I think if Dadawg repped me again today, my rep would still be 1, although he might push me to 2. If him repping me doesn't put me to 2, I would say my calculation was pretty close.
I'm not sure if each forum gets to set their divisor independently. I know BB.com had a divide by 1000 thing, because my reps were about 10k and i could rep for about 10 points before a mod got upset with my steroid talk and reset them :clown:
This forum might be divided by 250 or 500 or 1000. The displayed number is also rounded, since it can't show fractions of a rep point.

Looks like as I said, we aren't going to see a whole lot of rep changing hands unless stonecold drops some massive reps on some mods and they start spreading a little. That's why the mods at BB.com have 1,000,000 rep power (IMO that's too extreme, bumping someone by 1,000 is a bit ridiculous, especially because they rep trade on that board all day long).

It appears the rep system was valued differently at one time also. I see occasional members with join dates going back many years and they will have 8 on their rep bar. When you move your mouse over it says they are just getting started up in this joint. So not usre how that works.
In the end both Stonecold and Dread Pirate Roberts are not big fans of the rep system. I'm indifferent to it, I rep people when they post good stuff kind of like a pat on the back.

i've noticed that as well. I think you might be on to something. Ultimately I'm not too concerned with Rep, so long as I'm giving accurate information. Some sites take it to extremes though.

as far as i know my rep is based on years of small points given by members and i like it that way , i dont want artifical rep points because im a mod. at this point if im on and posting a lot my rep goes up 1-2 points a month just from a lot of karma from you guys.
that also means when i rep you guys that rep is worth more as well.

zeeks a good example , hes been here only a few months and hes up to 4 points. its not just about being popular , most of my reps are from members i have helped in a thread or by pm/email. zeek is one helpfull old fart and i bet his reps were earned that way as well.

Dawg 100% agree!! Zeeks has helped me out tons. If something happens to some lab In some country no one has ever heard off zeek will find out. LOL He's like a lab sniffing dog!!
