I tired them today I felt good with light weight and by light I mean under 135 I felt it in my hammies

but over 135 my back was hurting so I knew I was donig some thinkg wrong.

with the light weight I was dragging the bar up my legs might have let that slip with the heavier weights

what do u guys thnk of using dumbells instead of a bar??

or should I go back and make sure Im' still "dragging" the bar up my body

Try and keep your back as straight as possible, the motion should be all in your hips.

Love these, although i do them with dumbells.
Start out light as you do, and se to it that you get good form, then take it higher.

I agree with pb, i beleive on sldl's the bar is supposed to be out in front of you. Romanian deads will be much more down the thighs and legs. I did these the other night for 7at 365 and my back was fine. If your low back is weak, these are going to destroy it, especially if you squat first. Trust me, work your lower back hard and these will go up and you will be able to blast your hammies better.

doesnt say anything about dragging the weigh up your legs =0)

if you think about it you cant drag it up your legs. if the bar is hanging straight down from your shoulders and you bent at the waste. technically the bar shouldnt be in contact with you until you lock it out.

Keep your back arched just slightly. I've been doing these for years without a belt and have had zero pain. I can now do 225 lbs with strict form for 15+ reps. A good tip I learned is to squeze your ass cheeks together when lifting up....this will force you to use your hamstrings and glutes rather than your lower back.

The problem with stiffs is most men are not flexible to keep an arch until the weight touches the floor, or even off a platform the way most do them. Your back most likely is going to straighten and lose your arch.

these can be done correctly if you got the back strenght to hold form. no need to go all the way down. with an arch go as deep as your hams will let you go. some will have a longer range of motion than others. i dont even come close to the floor when i do them. big arch and hams tighten up quickly. im prolly at least 6" from the floor. now i can touch easily if i dont use a big arch. i can palm the floor on stretches with straight legs. so its not a flexability issue. its all in the arch and holding it.

same here, slight bend in knee and a slight arch. But i have a strong back as PB said (well he didn't say that exactly). And I only do a short range of motion. helps with the Xmas tree and the hammies for me this way!!

What about something like this?

I use the little platform for SLDLs, keep knees locked, and go down until my hands touch my toes. I don't go so far as to feel a stretch in the hammies. I am starting to get to heavier weights for myself, so is it ok to arch my back like the guy in the video?

bro if you arch your back away from the floor you prolly not gonna be able to touch your feet.

do not lock your knees either.

as with any exercise slight changes to body position changes what muscles get hit harder. if you rounding off on sldl then you gonna hit more lower back. if you keep a tight arch you gonna hit more hams.

linky no work

I usually let my body arch almost into a U shape at the bottom of my SLDL. You're saying this hits lower back good? So to hit the hamstrings I need to slightly bend my knees, but what about my back? Keep it completely straight, limiting ROM, or let it arch?
