The Difficult Road Ahead : 3J Client : I just need Possible

Today sucked. Diet was spot on, gym was meh, feeling like crap.

I woke up this morning without covers and after I finally got some WARM sleep happening, it was time to leave for work. Had a cough and sore throat. Not sure if this is just today or if it's going to turn into something tomorrow. So, the food was fine but in the gym it wasn't. I got through my routine, but barely. It was also super crowded which made things worse. Every time I thought a bench or rack opened up somebody was one step closer.

I've got one more meal to go before bed. Not much of an appetite. Found a new way to make my greens more filling: dicing up broccoli and topping that over my rice and chicken. I like boiled broccoli but this way it is more filling.

Anyways, I hope tomorrow is a better day.

No gym, no cardio...to bed early tonight. Hope to feel better tomorrow. Can't wait to push past this cold and go full-throttle in the gym.

I haven't had the opportunity to get my knee checked so putting off leg day seemed like an OK move. Depending on how I feel tomorrow I should get it checked out.

Diet was good as far as macros but the time between meal 1 2 and 3 were quite long compared to normal because of work and lack of appetite. Let's see what a good 12 hours sleep can do (I don't know if I am able to stay asleep that long but I know I don't have to wake up very early so I CAN if I want to).

Anything wrong with sleeping long hours?

Well, I did just that and slept as long as I could. Unfortunately, it wasn't good quality sleep as my nose was stuffed and my cough was rough.

Weigh in day: 145kgs, that's 4kgs in a week. So that's essentially the holiday weight I gained now gone!! I won't be going to the gym today. I'm gonna try and see a doctor later in the day if I get a chance. I want this cold out of my system. I'm packing my gym bag just in case things feel different later in the day though.

Ok got the holiday weight off great now get yourself healthy. I know how it is not wanting to miss a workout even if it has to be half assed but if you take a few days off get rid of the cold you'll be back in business. If you force yourself you can prolong your illness and possibly hurt yourself cause your not a 100% right? Then what more time off not being able to workout? Get to the doctor and see what's going on.

Take care

In the last 5 days I had 2 'off' meals due to poor prep. I didn't pack enough with me on two occasions and resorted to 7/11 food, which in Japan is pretty good. They were high carb days so I bought riceballs and grilled chicken. Had to guesstimate on the rice balls weight. The same for the chicken, which also had fat on it and some kind of sauce which had some carbs in it I'm sure. It was pre-workout meal so I had to eat. Those were my two screw ups.

Had a doctor look at my knee. From x-rays he says there seems to be no issue. He said that there might be some excess water under the knee but didn't recommend removing it. He said it would go away naturally. He added the merit of removing it now was low compared to the risk of infection because they'd be sticking in a needle to remove the water...which doesn't make a lot of sense since I'm sure they'd sterilize the area. He asked me to stretch more, especially before training. I'm also suppose to take NSAIDS twice a day and use some kind of cooling gel. If the pain is still there in a week, I get an MRI.

Going to take a nap then it's off to work...after work it's in the gym to kill my shoulders!!

Weigh in: 144.5 or 144.6.

This week sucked. I was expecting a more drastic change, as was 3J. Things are being reorganized. I'm actually going to weigh myself tomorrow just in case I was holding onto a lot of water weight from maybe using too much salt. Wishful thinking perhaps...but I'll see in the morning.

Add to that I had a cheat meal. My company messed things up and to apologize, I was out to lunch with them. I had all my meals with me in my ISOBag...got one meal in before I knew I would be eating out. I should've just enjoyed the meal but I couldn't. I'm going to be climbing up and down the stairs in my apartment just to feel a bit better about today and to see how well my knee fares against the stairs. Nothing too much, just something to mentally get me through the rest of the day and night. Back in the gym tomorrow to kill chest!!

Well, after the weekend, I dropped to 142.4 kgs (-2.4)

Sodium might have been the culprit. 1500 mg max is what I've been prescribed...so I decided to see how much I NORMALLY take. Man, I was WAY beyond 1500 mg. I'm not sure that's entirely the reason for not dropping weight as fast as expected but at least I know one thing I can work on.

Official weigh in after the week : 141.8 kgs (-2.8kg)

I'm hoping to break into the 130's by the end of January / beginning of February.

Got my MRI on my knee done today. Won't know what's going on until Tuesday. My x-rays showed no issue with the bones so let's hope the MRI solves the problem. I'm just praying it doesn't involve surgery.

My pants are now a problem. I've can't have anything in my pockets or they start to fall. My belt needs a new hole punched in it. My suit pants are now constantly clipping themselves. I only wear suits on the weekend where co-workers are constantly reminding me to 'close things up'. They're all having a laugh, I'm enjoying it too. I'm just not sure what to do about clothes now.

I think once I break 130's, I'll post a photo. Not much of a difference, I think. But then when I break 120's I'll do the same.

Killed arms today.

Awesome progress bro, keep it up. Photos are great, they keep you motivated. Keep killing it man!

Good luck with your MRI

Not a good day.

MRI showed lateral meniscal tear. Doctor said it wouldn't heal on it's own. Even though the pain has gone from moderate to minor, he thinks that surgery will be needed. He made it clear that he was 'only looking at an MRI' as if that wasn't the best way to make a conclusion, maybe not. I'm being referred to a Sports Medicine hospital where there are specialists in this type of injury and who have surgeons who perform the surgery necessary. I'll have to go through all the MRI X-ray battery of tests again.

This has gotten me down. Taking time off work means I won't be making money. I'm a contract worker so if I don't work I don't get a check at the end of the month. I had surgery last summer for an abdominal hernia. That wasn't fun. I'm guessing the knee will be even less so.

Anybody with experience?!

Well, a bad week.

Sunday I was suppose to have the day off. Planned to do some photo and video editing. Was going to cook all my meals fresh. Got a call to go into work. All I took with me was protein powder and olive oil. By the evening I was hungry and unhappy. Was taken out to Korean BBQ and drank alcohol.

Next day I had zero appetite and mostly had to guess tge weight of chicken and rice bought at the stores.

Tuesday I lost my appetite after learning I might need surgery on my knee.

Wednesday I was back on track.

I was in the gym everyday and got through all my cardio. Food was way off though.

In tge end I dropped 1kg. So I'm sitting at 140.8 kgs. My goal eas to make it into the 130s but I'm hopeful that will happen next week.

I'm in the waiting room of the big sports medicine hospital. I'm hoping the doctor will say 'that tear doesn't warrant surgery'. The pain is almost gone. I get some at the top of leg extensions. My unaffected leg also seems to be able to lift a little higher so I might have lost some mobility in my right leg.

Mentally I'm in a better place, ready for surgery if needed. I will tackle the obstacles as they come.

Mrs. Dash is my new best friend!! How much does it cost on that side of the ocean? It's costing me about 5 dollars a bottle (71 grams). Still, gotta keep an eye on my sodium intake and this has helped make food great tasting.

Today I'm doing shoulders. My back, for whatever reason, is really feeling it today (DOMS) compared to last week. Not sure why, but it's all good. I hope I get some similar DOMS on my shoulders.

I think it should be obvious to some, for me it wasn't though, keeping records of your lifts speeds things up and allows you to fine tune your weights. I only really started doing this in January. I was getting use to the lifts, the tempo. Now I've got it down so I know exactly which weight to start with and finish with before I even step foot in the gym. I add a little arrow next to my boxes if the weight needs to go up or down. It's mostly going down little by little. Depends a lot on how well I slept the night before and whether training in the morning or evening (Or afternoon).

It's almost a week since last weigh in, and I hope to weigh in into the 130's. Here goes nothing!

It is around $3 or so in the US, varies by area of course. I also keep track of my weight, but I keep a pencil with me to change it on the fly as needed. You are right, it REALLY helps, no guessing the weight - get done faster. :)

You know you're working with 3J when you eat a ton of pastries, some pizza and all sorts of goodness, then feel absolute guilt, start writing your email to 3J...then wake up from the dream!! And...you're not sure whether to feel good or bad or a bit of both!! Those dream donuts were good...time for some real oatmeal!
