the importance of prayer

You referred simply to non-believers, which is a generalization...you didn't say 'some non-believers' and you didn't say 'a sub-set of non-believers' you simply said 'non-believers'.

My statement about ignorance was in no way referring to your faith, nor was it name-calling, but was a statement regarding anyone who makes generalizations about a group of people. Perhaps you should re-read my post.

Do not for one second try to spin this as me 'spouting off' against any denomination of Christianity, or any faith for that matter.

Well, like I said the only people trying to shut the believers up is non-believers. That's fact, I don't see one catholic on tv bashing any Methodist's, or anyone else for that matter. I now see what state you live in, and I can guarantee that we will not find common ground on this issue. I will tell you this, I see liberal clowns all over tv bad mouthing the south, calling us names, and that is fine. Also just like the President, that I am sure you voted for. Remember these words from the great one (people who cling on to guns and religion). I do cling to my religion, and all of my guns too.

I'm a strong believer in prayer and faith and trust in a higher power. My life wouldn't be the same without it. I don't make it complicated, just believe that there is something greater than me and my purpose here is to be the best person I can be and help others. On the other hand I don't like being preached to or religion pushed on me. I don't think that method works for anyone. You have to find your own way.

Dear father in heaven...

Yeah, that is my point also, I never try and change anyones opinion on religion, or politics for that matter. But some, not all, but some think because you are religious, you are a ignorant hillbilly, (well I am a hillbilly LOL) or if you are a conservative you are a racist, or you don't care about anyone but yourself. It is a tactic used to intimidate someone that is weak minded.

Wow judge much? The state I live in? I've only lived here 2 years for grad school. I GREW UP IN THE SOUTH and I'M A FUCKING REPUBLICAN. I grew up hunting, fishing, and working on old rusty trucks. Couldn't have been any further off on that one bud.

This country was actually founded on secularism (separation of church and state ring a bell?) Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, heard of them? Freethinkers, not Christians.

LOL not killing and not stealing are just things that decent humans do...has nothing to do with religion. I'd like to think that most people don't need religion to tell them not to kill or steal, I know I don't.

Oh and maybe you should watch the news a little more...because most conflict is between different faiths, NOT non-believers and believers. Please don't tell me I need to list all of the inter-faith conflicts that span the globe, too.

Just to stir the pot a little..... our money does say In God We Trust!

I thought everybody knew that one!

Secretary Chase during the Civil War ordered that as a method for keeping the Union together and united.

Stayed that way ever since, and was ordered to be the country's official motto in the 50's.

The phrase wasn't borne from our founding fathers...not even close...about 16 presidents later actually.

LOL Nope didnt know that one...... I do know that several of the people that singed the declaration were free masons. That Washington DCs general layout has evidence of the compass and square

Guys, sometimes it is just best to agree to disagree. You are both making your points, and I agree with one person on this matter. In order to open minds, you have to be open minded yourself. <---Coining that one!

Well this was totally unexpected, who'd have thought a drunken religious post would breed discontent and jumping to conclusions...

Well, like I said the only people trying to shut the believers up is non-believers.

That's the thing about seeing yourself as persecuted. You think you're the one in danger or repressed when history clearly shows the opposite to be true. Funny that...

That's fact, I don't see one catholic on tv bashing any Methodist's, or anyone else for that matter.

Well you do if you pay attention. A person is running to be the Republican candidate that is of one religion and is judged by others. The 700 club has criticized non-Protestant religions. Billy Graham use to be on TV criticizing other churches and his son has picked up the torch. I haven't even gotten into wacky groups like the Westboro Baptist Church, the formerly mentioned were mainstream figures..

I now see what state you live in, and I can guarantee that we will not find common ground on this issue.

Ironic...

Ok. I'm from Texas. Why would you care what other people think about the South? If you feel that you are above reproach then just brush them off and don't let it get to you.

Also, to call a spade a spade, we had fucked up shit down here for a long time. Acting as if everything is peachy here is dishonest. Things are certainly better but how did they get better? People criticized-that's how things change man.

I'm racially mixed and grew up in a town that used to be the local head chapter of the KKK until the early 90's. If you think that such a thing didn't have an effect on non-whites growing up then you aren't thinking too clearly...

Also there have been a multitude of Bibles. King James, Luther's, New International Translation, Vulgate, etc. and in a number of languages.

Bottom line is the religious are in no way better then the irreligious. The irreligious are not smarter then the religious. Every group has its assholes. Recognize that fact and you'll be alright. Also when you try to impose your religious leanings on me or my family then we'll have a problem. Keep your stuff at home and I wont bring Evolution into your church...

Yes and several people who work at the McDonalds down the street are Catholic - doesn't make McDonalds a Catholic organization does it?

Just because they had a specific type of personal belief and were signers of the Declaration doesn't make the Declaration or what it stands for religious.

However, I am officially done posting in this thread. Ultimately this is not the place for this type of debate. I'm sticking to training, nutrition, and gear from now on. :D
