Gents..
I train 5- days a week (for an hour or so, not counting abs and or aerobics..evry other work out I do one of em )
After warming up and working up I do
12 working sets, approx., for big body parts..chest, back, legs.
6 sets traps with 6 sets of shoulder..12 again
9 sets for triceps.
6-8 sets bis..3-4 sets forearms.
I m a hard gainer..high metabolism and I know just more juice aint the answer.
I m 45..due to injury some days heavy bench, inclines, squats is not an option.. etc
Comments and advice would be cool please..

Hey man Im a hardgainer to and used to think like that. Try incresing the weight a little and decreasing rest periods. Also try going to a 4 day program. Variety is a huge thing to consider as well, nothing worse than a stale workout.

I would stay around 4 sets with heavier weight ... not to heavy to where you lose form but 4 sets is ideal to me. I would also do what lcgator said about decreasing rest periods in between sets.

Bro first off, for your big muscles like legs and back I would do more like 16+ sets, hell I even do 16 for my chest. The only way to gain is to up the weight and make sure your diet is in check. Add in another meal per day and try peanut butter sandwiches right before bed. It will help you add a few extra pounds. The Notre Dame football team does this.
