Who's got monstrous traps?

Dumbell Shrugs vs Barbell Shrugs? How'd you boys get em big?

wide grip BB shrugs will make them thicker and close grip will build them higher. You have to think about those traps when your doing them, just like you do with your chest. Don't be the guy who puts 5 plates on the bar in my squat rack to do sets of 3 using there whole fucking body. I personally do set of 20, 15, 12, 10 ,8 ,8 ,10, 12, 15, 20. adding weights as you lower reps and decreasing weights as you go back up in reps

Mine grow too easily. I don't do any direct trap work, but I do Rack Pulls on back day. So they still get hit.

I work heavy shrugs, then dumbbell shrugs then I will finish with either upright rows or rope pulls to the upper chest with the lat pull down machine

Heavy weight but good form that's it for any muscle all exercises work the muscle they are intended to its just a matter of personal preference which exercise feels like its hitting it the best

I actually don't like the way big traps look so I don't hit them directly either. They get plenty of work from deadlifts. It makes your shoulders look narrower when you have huge traps.

I think it depends on the person. Tom Hardy in the movie Warrior for example has massive traps and I don't think it takes away from his frame. If anything it's the first thing you notice and IMO looks solid

Mine are a little out of proportion. They really blew up when I started cycling. Best ex IMO: heavy ass BB shrugs with a 2 second squeeze at the top. DB shrugs and smith close grip shrugs work well too. Everything works for traps :D

Ive only done hang clean, power clean, deadlift; and wasn't doing them to get big traps haha just happened.

There's this guy in my gym who has huge traps and wide back, but the rest of his body is definitely not in proportion. It doesn't look terrible, but he does kind of remind me of a turtle.

i love doing traps but mine grow like weeds as soon as i start to train them... so i only do them off and on. but that wasnt always the case. they grow when i train them correctly.. do variations of shugs. bb infront and behind. DB and do them between reps on upright rows... but the key is to go as heavy as possible while maintaining a full range of motion and a 3 sec squeeze at the top.

I've got pretty decent traps. Mine grew from deadlifts. Last year I was pulling over 600lbs raw (just a belt and some chalk, narrow stance) but due to a lower back injury I haven't been able to deadlift for the most part of this year so I stick to DB and BB shrugs. They're both effective exercises.
