WOAH! Left pec bigger than right =/ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

basically, my left pec is a lot bigger than my right. I'd say just under double the size. Im left handed, and i do most things with my left (throwing, catching, picking up ect) but when i play ice hockey, i shoot right, and my right arm does all the work. I read somewhere that it was genetics to have the left one bigger, because it protects the heart. But how can i even them out? I switch regularly between dumbbell and barbell bench press. I do dips, flys and a bunch of other pectoral exercises.

So how should i go about fixing this? Only work out my right pec for a while? Like hold onto one weight with my left arm, and only do flys with the right? Any other ideas? I was thinkin about doing bench, and focusing on my right pec when i lift. Also, i once read, there was a university study, that showed, if you constantly tell yourself and think that your huge, you will actually get bigger! So maybe if i think about my right pec getting bigger, it will?

What are your thoughts?

"Strong username to thread title ratio." LOL

Some people are just asymmetrical...but you could try one armed dumbbell bench to try to even it out.

just a note, if ur a right-handed shot in hockey u should know that ur top hand is controlling the stick (your left hand)...

as for evening out your lop-sided chest... do only free-weight movements (barbell presses, dumbell presses with strict form. Over time u will get a more balanced look

Like China said. When doing exercises take prefence over ones with DBs opposed to BB. That and time and you will be golden.

I agree with China,
That being said you will always have one side stronger than the other, but the body will always continue to fight for balance on both sides. What you do to you left side will translate to the right. What I mean by that is if you only did a DB exercise on your right arm you left arm would match even if you don't work it out. Now the left arm may be slightly smaller and weaker but the body will not usually allow it to be double the size, Post a pick I'd like to see the size difference.

I havr had the same problems for years due to shoulder injuries during football years. Dont do one arm bench work out. What i did was all dumbbell worked on my form that is key. You can also use one of those calistenic balls as a bench it will help isolate the muscles. I did tht and used dumbbells for a couple months and it helped.

Isometric exercises can help, onearm smith benchpress, dumbbells, if you have access to hammerstrength machines there good also.
