i'm also of the opinion that it is high. Sorry, i dont buy into that you cant judge depth from the front stuff, especially when the head judge is judging from the front. Also, take a look at all IPF squats from any angle and they look good.
Yes, years ago, deadlifts used to be higher than squats. Due to the use of the monolift, wraps, triple-ply squat suits and lax judging, squat numbers have skyrocketed while deadlift numbers have remained about the same over the years.
However if you took away all the gear, except belt, made them walk it out, and squat to real depth, you would see that squat numbers really haven't jumped too much since the 70's.
Now, all that being said, absolutely no disrespect to donnie and that incredible feat of strength. Dude is a beast, and set that record within the rules of his federation, so all power to him. But when i see squat/deadlift discrepancies reaching 500+ pounds, half squats, touch and go and non-locked out benches, it just makes a mockery of the classic rules of the sport that i love.
