They work fine, just pump a few cc's of isoproply through, then a few cc;s of air till yuo can no longer smell the iso...thenn a few cc's of oil to purge - begin conversion.

Will other solvents(friendly ones) suffice?
Such as high percentage ethanol, acetone, benzyl alcohol etc?

Can't you get rubbing alcohol super cheaply? What country are you in?

I think we use isopropyl, or atleast as we call it isopropanol as a windshield-cleaner
And yes that is cheap to buy.
