hey bros, what I'm looking at doing is getting to 'least 405 for 5 reps by end of this yr. That's right. I'm 6' 2" 245 and can't get 405 for even 5 measly reps.

My form is good - I do them until my balls make contact with the mat, none of these quarter or half "squats". Max right now is 315 for a couple reps, haven't tried one-rep max - still waiting for the belt for that one.

For my profile, read up http://www.steroidology.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49796

And yeah, I started squatting a yr back, so progress ain't that bad, but I just want to take it up a notch (without the juice).
If it helps, I'm doing all the assistance work ........glute-ham raise, SLDL for posterior chain, a bit of abs...but I think what's giving up on me is leg power when getting that sonofagun up there.

Appreciate any insight from the experienced hardcore lifters. You know who you are :D

Thanks bros.

If it helps I was stuck at 400 mark and I just added 10-20 pounds every week ad now Im up to 490, so it takes some time.

Also your 6'2" shit it is harder for you since your taller, no need to go too low where your ass touches the floor bro, just low enough to get more from the legs when pushing back up.

10-20 lbs every week is too much if your not using gear..i would make squats a 5x5 move or even 3x5 and just keep adding 5 lbs every week..

at least you are using correct form. Listen bro, as long as you are pushing yourself, it doesn't matter IMO. I used to squat parallel, which I thought was right, and I could get almost 500 for a few reps.

Last week, yep, last week, after ten+ years of lifting, I went to the floor with my squats, and could only get 365 for like 5. BUT, my legs have never hurt so bad in my life, so I am sticking with it.

go as deep as you can go. keep plugging away bubba you doing the right thing.

are you failing at the top, transition or bottom of the lift?

his stance width/form may be holding him back as well . i know youve seen it many times before where just adjusting foot angle and or width has made a big difference with squat progress . especially for someone as new to squatting as our friend here .:)

trust me on this one bro - you ain't squatting until you been in the hole :p

but you're right about increasing resistance every week ...... I've been kinda lazy about that, so 5-10 every week it is .

thanks guy

only probs with that is the lack of hypertrophy bro. I wanna get some size on as well ......so right now I'm leaning towards having one high rep squat routine and another low-rep power routine with progressive (weekly) overload whatdya think ?

congrats on gettin it right bro - its never too late.

one of the first things i like to do when learning anything new is getting the basics down pat - so I spent countless hrs researching correct squatting form.

amongst others, people on this board like pullinbig, needsize, dawg have helped amateur lifters like myself tremendously by being very forthcoming with information/advice and for putting up educational vids. So I've been lucky enough to start out with the correct form - now if I could just get 365 for 5 like yourself, that would be awesome ;)

PB, its the transition phase that gets me bro. right when the thighs are about 110 degrees relative to the vertical ( 90 degrees would be parallel).

i'm thinking i should be hitting up box squats .........whatdya think ?

stance is slightly wider than shoulder width, toes out aboout 20 degrees or more.

i've seen the squatting stance in PL and that is not for me bro ...... works a bit too much of the inner thighs ......... I'd like a little more quad action going :p

i've also experimented with the foot angle ........but when they're too narrow
( < 20 degrees) , it brings my lower back into play way more than i'd like .......and i'd rather not be good morning and squatting at the same time .

excellent idea watson. set the box up just below the sticking point. for you this will be parrallel. if you can send me a clip of you squatting. it may be as dawg said just a form issue that could really break you thru this plateau.

yo PB, where'd you guys get them boxes of different heights from anyways ? my gym has one but thats too low........i'm thinkin of using a bench and set it across the squat rack ......think that should do it.

thanks for the offer bro ... i'll let you know once i manage to get a clip. .....but i think form's OK ....since i can "feel" the squat - mind in the muscle and all that jazz .......a la Mr Tom Platz.

we use those cardio stepper from the cardio room. jes stack um to desired height. most gyms have them. i dont know where they buy them. i think they are welcoming gifts trolls bring anytime you open a new gym.

just did them box squats with the bench and PB ......... I think I love you

brig it on baby. make sure you getting at least parallel if not a couple inches below. take a pic in the bottom position and post it.
