Music & Lifting

This is a question just out of curiousity for all the weight lifters and body builders. Do you feel more of an adrenaline rush and more of a pump (if you are juicing) when music is playing and your working out? Or maybe some of yall dont even listen to music. Just wondering because I started lifting while listening to music and it actully helped?

It's hard as hell for me to lift without my mp3 player. The worst is right when I'm about to start my workout just to find out my batteries are dead! When I listen to music when lifting it puts me in a zone and I get a much better workout.

when im kicking around doing accessory work or on light days i enjoy the music myself but i can honestly say that if im tackling a heavy low rep set or especially a maxx effort single i dont even hear the music even if it is on .

It's all a part of getting yourself amped up. I read a good article on this a while back. We all have little rituals we go through to get in the zone, and from of physchiatric standpoint, they work.

music is not neccesary for me but my Bro in Law is pretty big on getting high and then lifting. Says he has had some of the best lifts ever after smoking a little doubage

I used to always listen to music untill I crushed my MP3 player into little bits with a heavy dumbell...I thought I couldn't go to the gym without it but after a few weeks I carried on just the same.....It's just what your used to...I train the same with or without it...

I am going to sound like an odd ball, but I view successful weight training as a mind over matter experience. Complete focus and concentration, just as a pro golfer requires complete silence when he's putting for the Masters Championship. If it were up to me the gym would be a place of dead silence while I attempt to exceed my previous best effort on any given set. I will always politely jump all over some butt head who starts yelling, "come on man you can do it" while I am in the middle of a set.

I swear I hit a PB every time "South of Heaven" by Slayer comes through on the rotation in my mp3 player :)

I had a training partner once who used to: drink 8 cups of coffee, drop 3-4 tabs of ephedine and smoke a dime bag before every workout. He was the most ripped natural (no Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) at least) lifter I've ever seen in person.

I mainly need my own music to drown out the shit they play at my gym.

LOL, fuck that! If I smoked that shit before I was supposed to work out I'd just stay at home, stuff myself with junk food then go to sleep for a day.

cosins. Theres nothing worse then dead fucking batteries in my mp3, I can fucking kill people when this happens. No music, no workout for me period!

my girlfriend want step foot in the the gym w/ out her mp3 player, i mean w/ out my mp3 player. i really have to get me a new one. it really does put me in my zone like nothing else can. its all about the focus...oh, and a gram a week of your favorite AS stack

I reckon that's about the best reason to bring your own music.

In a perfect world the gym would just be quiet with only the sound of weights being used. No music. No talking. Maybe that's what heaven is like.

I'm not juicing but I think listening to my own music probably adds 5-10% to a session.

i'm going to try it (music not weed)
I'll need something to help me as I just started post cycle therapy (pct) today after a 20 week cycle

If I had music I wouldn't be able to get seriously angry when some muppet starts clunking weights or grunts like he's shiting a brick!! I lift some good weights when I fuming :D

I used to think music was important but so many gyms play such crap that I learned to tune out whatever there is --I think wearing headphones is anti-social and occasionally someone needs spot--our gym is a bunch of clanging and the owner only has ball games on so there is no music--I like it that way.

i tried using a cd player (pre MP3 days) and i found it kind of distracting, especially when benching or squatting; i couldnt concentrate on the weight . the music at the gym is just fine for me...i block it out half the time anyway. i do like to play some loud ass hard music before my workout though.

i find when i have my mp3 player on it makesit like there's only me in the gym and it helps me concentrate more because i can focus more on my form... love it when the hatebreed or pantera comes on!
